I have had both and I disagree. Cats do have personalities and they can be as different as people. A friend has a cat who loves people and when someone enters the house (even a stranger) she rolls on her back and gives some enticing eyes and you can help but rub her belly. My late partner didn't care for any pets but loved Gracie.
One thing I like about cats is that they aren't so needy like dogs and don't need constant attention.
