In the very old book "The Golden Bough" there is a somewhat learned exposition of how the Catholic missionaries took the pagan ceremonies of whatever group they were proselytizing to and incorporated them into the mass, or the religious holidays.
Or that Catholics(the early ones) used pagan gods and goddesses to make their pantheon of saints. Or that there are Virgin birth of the Sun(Son) stories much older than the Bible.
But thatβs none of my business, lol.
Church was crafty . . incorporate locals demigods and rename them as saints . . makes swallowing forced conversion a bit easier I guess
@bookofmoron Exactly. In Ireland, the goddess Brighid/Brigid/Brigitte was made into St. Bride, and her symbol(a sun wheel, slightly asymmetrical cross) became a St. Brideβs Cross. Irish nunneries weave them from reeds for sale. Plus the symbol is widely available as jewelry and decor.
