This killer tried to get a 'Conceal and Carry Permit', but his record came up. He already had the gun, but this flagged him to the ATF. I do not understand how he got thru. He was a felon from an earlier crime in New Orleans. Evidently the hide and carry has a stiffer software program to expose people, but he had the gun. It was on CNN and it was explained that he was to be terminated that day. He obviously over prior years had been in trouble many times and definitely had mental issues.

@Redheadedgammy I agree with some of that but I still think the average person does not need weapons of mass destruction. That is for our military.

@AntaresRose exactly. I'm not saying we need to get rid of guns. I have a handgun myself that my daddy gave me back in the 90's when I was single woman living in Houston. He insisted I needed it for protection. I've never fired a shot from it. What I believe needs to change is the ability for the general population to buy the AR-15 or any weapon like it that is used for KILLING. That is all those guns are for, to murder as many people as possible in minutes. That and the clips with over 10 rounds are not needed by any civilian.

@Redheadedgammy Having a rifle or hand gun doesn't bother me either. Evidently the ATF when notified, sent him a letter to turn in his gun. We all know the outcome of that. I guess after the letter is sent, there is no follow up. He had been in trouble many times for such things as domestic violence and other violent confrontations. He just kept getting guns and not stopped. Somewhere, we need to alert by flagging someway that a person maybe a threat to others as well as himself, If someone signs a statement like that against you in PA, it gets you 3 days on a mental ward. He bought a rifle and a hand gun from the same dealer. I think if I understood the CNN updates, the New Orleans felony did not show up on the IL, gun request. It sounds like the computer software needs more work.
