Apatheism - Wikipedia

New to this group...glad you're here in this quagmire of dogmatic atheists! I had JUST shared this when I found this group, publicly and in the Philosophy & Meaning thread, and felt it may be helpful here, along with the photo.

You have every right to disagree with me on any point. Still, if you're not sure if you're an Apatheist...or don't care, or feel it doesn't matter...then very likely you are.

But honestly...does it matter?

[en.wikipedia.org]

Using the simplest terms available to me I'm doing my utmost to end the incessant debate of the closed minded: no, you do not have to be either a Theist or Atheist. As an Apatheist, I see any arguments for or against the existence of gods as an exercise in futility and an utter waste of time.

I can completely understand the position of someone who would want conclusive evidence to become a "believer". So would I...and I find enough evidence against man made religions even in their own "holie" writings to know they're manufactured make-believe medication for the masses.

In the interim however, I cannot see myself ever being so closed minded I could say "there is/are no god/ess/es/s". I do stand by my personal belief, based on facts, that ( a ) "god/ess/es/s" can be described as the collective behaviors of believers as a result of these beliefs.

In other words, most people's "god/ess/es/s" really suck. These behaviors are what concern me more than anything, especially when it comes to the fanatics who steal jets to fly into buildings or those who support lying, cheating, thieving politicians only to enforce their religious agendas on the rest of us.

If you take issue with any of this, PLEASE block me. I know you (think) you know everything, point made loud and clear too many times already, end of discussion.

For the rest of us, perhaps we can constructively consider how to most effectively deal with these issues forced on us by the truly dangerous among us.

I have a friend who honestly doesn't care about the God question at all, as in he cares so little that he spends zero time on it. For him, I think the apatheist label fits perfectly, and I recently had the chance to tell him so.

To be honest, the remark "I see any arguments for or against the existence of gods as an exercise in futility and an utter waste of time." sounds like a blend of an ignostic belief [en.wikipedia.org] with a conclusion that is apatheist only in some minor sense.

But, given how often and ardently (and I don't say this at all as a disagreement with doing so) you post about deities and religion and those kinds of beliefs, it seems that you care a lot about the God question. Personally, I don't see, in that case, that the apatheist label really fits you.

I say this because, for myself, I feel I'm on the opposite end of the interest-spectrum from apatheist (e.g. my aforesaid friend), where I really do care about the question and spend a rather over-done amount of time considering it. That would make me an—I don't know, let's make up a word—enthusiatheist (chuckles)... Or maybe an enthusiagnostic would be better. I'm an agnostic who is quite seriously interested in the god question.

While the label is a little silly, I suspect it would kind of fit you too. 🙂

The more we talk about the god question the longer it will last. I agree we have to talk about something to get rid of it but why not talk about alternatives to religion or other means of transferring from religion to a more freethinking global community.
I do not see any need to duplicate work by atheist with groups or people who call themselves apatheists.
