There was an interesting article on the Today programme this morning about how BREXIT may affect environmental standards in the new world. Of note, the plan to end the sale of vehicles with traditional combustion engines re-affirmed as 2040. India has declared 2030 and Norway in 2025. Are we trying hard enough to reduce our emissions? Does anyone own an electric vehicle or have any opinions? I must admit I'm considering looking at one next year but they're still hellishly expensive and Tesla chargers are still fairly sparse.

The mainstream media is controlled by the ruling class, and the ruling class is having a hissy fit meltdown because the plebs voted to leave.

This is why Brexit voters are being so thoroughly demonised. The UK Conservative government recently cut subsidies for wind power - that has nothing to do with Brexit.

@beansontoast

You have to ask 'why' the mainstream media has been demonising Brexit voters so thoroughly and 'why' the Conservative government sent out booklets to every household urging them to vote to Remain.

I've no doubt some Leave campaigns were based on less savoury memes. There was also a left wing campaign for Leave called 'Lexit' which went under the mainstream media radar.

Lots of businesses are complaining now, because they can't get the cheap, freedom of movement labour the EU used to offer. Instead they have to pay decent wages to British citizens.

@Ellatynemouth You must be watching a different mainstream media. lost count of how many anti brexit protests haven't made the news and as for the media comments on May and her ilk, I think they have had it easy considering the cock up they are making. And those comanies you talk of won't change thier pay just location. Every day there is news of another moving out of the UK Food rots in the ground as no one to pick it. You see, you won't have to kick out EU citizens they are already leaving in disgust. And your poorer by over 20% as the pound becomes worth less. The main money backer of the leave campaign bet on the markets that the pound would plummet. He made a fortune. The few million he invested in the leave camp paid back a thousand fold. You got had if you voted leave. Look it up, I dare you, I double dare you.

@Savage

I double dare you to research Article 106. (It's a piece of arcane EU legislation, hidden away so you don't know about it.)

Nothing you have said has swayed me. The EU's attacks on Greece, France's unions and the way they turned a blind eye to the recent Spanish police brutality in Catalonia come to mind.

And the EU's blocks on government subsidised steel industries (UK and Italy) exposes the real face of the EU.

Only 52% voted to leave. They have not had the last word: [europeanmovement.co.uk]

@Ellatynemouth Do you mean this Lexit?: [politics.co.uk]

@Ellatynemouth Do you mean this Article 106?: [lisbon-treaty.org]

@Red_Cat

Did you read my previous point about the mainstream media? And you post me a mainstream media link. Don't waste my time.

@Ellatynemouth Not him doing the wasting. One question as you think it is the left pushing for brexit, which is laughable, what do you know about another piece of EU legislation coming in just as we are supposed to leave, reigning in tax avoidance across the EU and we all know the UK is the taxhaven king.And you think it is the left pushing hbrexit, what planet you on.??

@Savage

Living up to your username I see.

Part of it was the left. Part of it was the right and the xenophobic. Just as for the Remain campaign. Ie. The Tories asking us to vote Remain.

Look up Article 106 - if you can manage that. And the the Left campaign was 'Lexit'. Which you probably never heard of because - the mainstream media...

@Ellatynemouth Don't be so condescending, you can manage that, can't you?? And Yes, you better believe I live up to my name. And brexit is a right wing idea in the main, and psychologically, very much so.

@Savage

If you don't want to be condescended to, don't condescend.

@Ellatynemouth Actually, that was sarcasm.

Too little too late.
Oil production will have hit a crisis low point long before 2040.
after 2020 things will hit a decline, problems will arise in all industrialised nations and when all the "New" and "Innovative" solutions are revealed by the oil and power companies to save the day, people will be tto busy praising them to remember that they caused the problems in the first place.

@beansontoast Yes but I was thinking more of the deliberate suppression of renewables.

@LenHazell53 Isn't it obvious, it is the perfect money maker, a depleting resource and rising demand, some are going to get very rich, though of course they are already very rich, so all this brinkmanship with resource is just to fuel egos.

Well seeing as things were looking slightly better before trump upped out of Paris and just recently the carbon levels have pastvyge pint of job return. I can only see things setting worse as emperor may wants to do more business with him
