Shenandoah - This song was posted earlier in the Music Fans group sung by Arlo Guthrie and as it’s a favourite song of mine I thought I’d post a different version here by one of my own favourite singers. This song has travelled a very long way from the Missouri River, right around the world in fact, because I remember singing it in primary school in Scotland as a child. Here, Norwegian Sissel Kyrkjebo sings this traditional American folk song with accompanying views of the Shenandoah Valley and the Missouri River.

There are varying versions of who or what Shenandoah was...but I think a young woman is the most popular...Indian or not depending on the story. One version says she was an Indian maiden and it was a Union soldier who fell in love with her.
