Yes...it’s a tune we’re all very familiar with.

@Marionville Outlander books we read but got bored with them once they went to the States. Mind you there were some horrid bits in the first couple.

@rogerbenham never read them...but I did watch the TV series.

@Marionville I watched a little of the first series and knew that I'd hate all her dealings with Randall so did not watch further.

@Marionville Well did they show Randall nailing Jamie's hand to a desk? I had no intention of finding out.

@rogerbenham yes..Randall was a piece of work, there were a few very sadistic scenes where he tries and almost succeeds in breaking Jamie.

@Marionville I really have grown to dislike watching violence. The media feeds it to us and so I quit TV in '79 and mostly radio in 2000. The Hollywood version of Tolkien is too violent for me to watch and the final Harry Potter books got so nasty. The opening life with Jamie in 1745 must have been truly very rough. We cannot really imagine the lives of that times. The wealthy wearing wigs so that they shaved their heads because of lice. Bed bugs everywhere. And being so often wet and cold. Costume dramas miss out all the constant scratching.

@rogerbenham I don’t like scenes of gratuitous violence ...or sex for that matter. However, if it is an integral part of the story and needs to be included for us to really understand why characters react to others in the way they do, sometimes it’s necessary to be more graphic in the detail than we would normally like. Humans do dreadful things to each other and unless we are children I don’t believe we should be shielded from it. What is more harmful are some programmes with wholesale violence with seemingly no consequences for the perpetrators.
