It seemed appropriate on this beautifully crisp winter morning to post Antonio Vivaldi’s “Winter” from his Four Seasons suite. It’s being performed here live by German violinist David Garrett.

Yes love it. Interesting about your comment about it being a "beautifully crisp winter morning". I had a note from a friend in Co Cork where he had 2-1/2" of ice on his duck pond and it was -3C and sunny whilst here it is overcast and -1C but I'd guess that ice on lakes is way thicker.
M is quite right that some classical composers were very much pop music composers of their day. Handel absolutely was that. Wagner we have to wonder about as he was probably the nastiest man of all!

We’ve had this beautiful winter weather since Christmas ....the ice hasn’t thawed where the sun can’t reach one side of my lane for over a week now. The weather is beautiful for walking in the early part of the afternoon when the sun has warmed things up a little.

Love it!

Of course...it’s pure class!

I will shamefully admit that I was not aware of Vivaldi's Four Seasons until I saw the 1980's film The Four Seasons with Alan Alda, Carol Burnett, and Rita Moreno. The movie was great, I thought, and the music greatly enhanced it. I soon went out to a "record store" and bought the cassette tape of this piece of music.

Many people know very little about classical music, believing it to be elitist. The classical composers of previous generations were the pop stars of their day, and in fact much of their music has found its way into our modern pop songs today. There are only so many combinations of musical notes after all!
