He’s a legend in his home country of Italy and has performed his style blues & rock with top artists from around the world. He performs under his stage name Zucchero which means “Sugar” and was given to him by one of his teachers when he was a schoolboy. Here he performs - Il Volo in St. Marks Square, Venice.

It bothers me not seeing any of his backing band.

They would be in the studio...I think we’ve discussed how they create these “on location” videos before.

@Marionville I do realise all that. It takes me back to the mid sixties BBCTV and ITV pop music programmes. Top of the Pops was all mimed. Ready Steady Go and Kathy McGowan was all live. I almost never watched Jacobs and cleaned up pop. But then I was a Stones fan. Later an Animals and Cream, Spencer Davis Group, Yardbirds fan. I liked the raw stuff. Sadly in a way my tastes change. I play at festivals where 85% is rock music and the quieter stuff is tucked away into back stages and I find I have ever less interest in the rock bands except when I jam with one or two of their best musicians acoustically.

@rogerbenham yes...I remember the days of not just TOTP, when virtually all TV shows insisted on miming...it was easier and cheaper for the TV companies, some artists deliberately mimed badly and demonstrated that their instruments were not plugged in ...in protest. Even The Beatles and The Stones mimed in the TV studios. However that isn’t the same as making a promotional video in the outdoors, all artists make these types of videos to promote their music, sometimes on tops of mountains or in other sites, most inaccessible and nigh on impossible to perform live at, especially with orchestral backing and all the technical equipment necessary. We’re not talking live concert gigs here, they are still the live experience, be they huge stadia for Rock concerts, opera houses for classical concerts, or more intimate live gigs in pubs, clubs and small venues. We have to be able to differentiate between all of these things and what I try to do here is vary my posts between live performances, promo videos, straight studio recordings ..and even at times if there is no alternative ...the lip-synced TV performance of a particular artist.

I don’t expect you or anyone else to like everything posted...I just do my best.

@Marionville All fair enough comments except missing my point that Ready Steady Go as opposed to TOTP was live performances and it is why I gave up on TOTP very quickly. The Stones were far more exciting on RSG!
I read what you say but I guess my root problem is an ever increasing disinclination to listen to pop music. Maybe I should just ignore the pop music put here. There is no way that I'll reach level 9 before I'm dead and they didn't give me a T shirt for getting to 8! So I can't upset the 1/3rd of my town constituting the Christian Right.
