This would have been my father’s birthday …he was born in 1910, so today he’d be 111 were he still here! As something to remember him by I’m posting one of his favourite tunes - it’s by Italian composer EnricoToselli and is known as Toselli’s Serenade. I have chosen both an instrumental one performed by French Canadian violinist Andre Proulx and a vocal recording in German by renowned tenor Fritz Wunderlich.
Mine would be 112. He died in '88. My mother in '66.
Lovely gentle flow. Beautiful. Sorry, definitely the Canadian!
There two votes from Canada!
My father died in 1978…but my mother lived until she was 91, dying in 2002. Can’t blame you Canadians for being partisan!
Beautiful, but gotta go with the Canadian.
Of course.
Your father was 2 years younger than mine. I don't know if mine had a favourite tune let alone song.
I inherited my love of music and my vocal ability from my Dad…as a boy he was a chorister (the only atheist one I’m sure, but he was probably clever and canny enough a Scot to keep that quiet!) as an adult he had a very fine tenor voice.
@Marionville : Did he ever sing professionally? Just curious.
Great composition. I wondered when it was written, could not find the year but was obviously before 1926 the year Toselli died.
I’m not sure …but I think he seemed to be actively composing from 1910 onwards. Perhaps he actually composed it that year…which was the one in which my father was born. He sadly died at the early age of 43 in 1926.
