On St Patrick’s Day…what else but an Irish singer singing a traditional Irish song…and a very beautiful one too. Carrickfergus is a town in Co Antrim in Northern Ireland, standing on the north shore of Belfast Lough about 10 miles to the east of Belfast city. It has a Norman castle dating from 1177 and was the landing place in Ireland of William of Orange and his army in 1690. Carrickfergus. - Ronan Keating.

It is a Norman castle which was built in 1177 by Hugh De Courcy after he conquered eastern Ulster and became de facto ruler or overlord until he was later overthrown by another Norman adventurer Hugh De Lacy…who took over the castle and added to it.
@Marionville Built no doubt with Irish slave labour ... or were they Picts. And then forcing rent from them. The only castles we have negative stories about were Nottingham and the Tower of London. But they all represented the same. Hugh De Courcy very much a Norman name.
@rogerbenham History is history Roger…and castles are part of it. Like them or not!
