Miriam Makeba brought African music into our consciousness in the early 1960’s and because we all had TV sets by then, we could see her perform too and she became very famous as possibly the only African singer we knew of. Here she performs the Zulu song - Mbube (song of the lion hunt) on French TV in Cannes in 1963.

It amazes me how she does all the different clicks without any special mouth movement visible.

Amazing…this one was one her best known.

@Marionville Yes, I've known it a long time but I did not know the Lion Song.

Very cool! I liked it, too. I'll have to pull up more of her stuff.

She was very successful…made an album with Harry Belafonte..but here’s an album she released in 1968 called Makeba. She was prominent in the South African anti-apartheid movement too.

@Ray13 See if you can get this one…I changed it.

@Marionville I really enjoyed that, too, thank you! I'm sorry I hadn't heard her before, but I'll look for the Belafonte releases because I've always enjoyed his voice.

@Lauren You’ll find them easily on YouTube….I was thumbing through them earlier.
