Interesting in how relaxed and informal they all are and totally reliant on percussion.

It is the roots of the art... based on a simplistic jam session mode. Once the music start the is no stopping. Morphing from one song to the next. It can go for hours, musicians may be substituted. Singers come out of nowhere... Improvising just like the percussionists. But is a continuos flow. Could happen in a park, a backyard, an alley, the beach, a club, a corner of a street, a school. Day or Night. Strangers, Friends, Relatives, Professionals or Amateurs. Some of the greatest Rumberos were never professional musicians. Many songs are standards that nobody knows the origin or author, songs I heard as a child over 60 years ago, still around. Songs from Spanish Gypsies, from Cuba before and after the Revolution, from Puerto Rico. Salsa standards or not. Tradition of Rumberos. In the case of this Bandleader Cachete Maldonado he just passed away. So all 'Rican Rumberos all Mourning his Passing. There will be Rumbas to his Memory.
