Celtic folklore today...Selkies or “Seal Folk” are mythological beings who are capable of therianthropy, changing from seal to human form by shedding their skins. They are common to Scottish, Irish and Icelandic folktales and mythology, but they have their origins in the Northern Isles of Scotland. Song Of The Sea was an Irish animated fantasy film made in 2014 based on the Selkie story. This is a song from that film and I’m posting a version in Irish - Amhran Na Farraige - Selkie Song and in English - Song Of The Sea...both versions sung by Lisa Hannigan.

I'll stick with the Corrie's thanks

And if having a problem with Scottish accent & dialect either

Or

It’s not a case of either/or...why can’t we enjoy the old traditional songs as well as the new ones. I am not wedded to only listening to what I have always listened to like you seem to be. Is there nothing after the 1960/70s that you find enjoyable? Btw...I didn’t like Baez singing this...her voice is more suited to American protest songs and she should leave the Scots & Irish songs to those who can sing them properly. Collins is wonderful, and can sing anything well. The Corries are Scottish and if anyone can’t understand a Scottish song sung in a Scots accent then that’s their problem and should either listen more carefully or not bother at all.

@Marionville aha, you deny me the right to have preferences! I do not make comment on your choices othe than that I prefer the hundrds of years old balad not influenced, as are the Baez & Collins versions on current fashions. Even the Corrie's version is influenced by audiences of the era's preferences.
I notice that you giveboth Gaelic & English versions of the song.

@FrayedBear I never said you didn’t have great right to have preferences, we all have preferences. What I was trying to point out was that it is possible to like both or even all of them. I posted the English and Irish versions to let people hear it in both languages. Thanks for posting the other three videos...I enjoyed listening to two out of three of them and said so, only disliked Baez on grounds that her voice grated on me. I liked my two and two of yours...what is the problem? I merely asked you if you ever find merit in newer music, I note you gave no answer.

@Marionville I mention your two versions as you are disparaging of those not taking to your native tongue and indeed dear Joan Baez and her American accent. It sounds a bit pot calling the kettle black or hypocritical to me. You chose to post here in world music rather than "Traditional and Folkmusic" where they would fit in as being folk idiom. Perhaps in 100 years time they will have become traditional.
New music - I've featured numerous from Eric Bogle,, John Dengate, Jason & Chloe Roweth to Alistair Hulett though I must admit that I have not had my delight rattled by anyone lately.

@FrayedBear I will post in Traditional & Folk if you want me to...didn’t think it would qualify there. Let’s just agree to differ and move on ...shall we? I post music from around the world here outside of the usual English & American market...it fitted well here I thought, and it is my own group.

@Marionville exactly. At present it is in the folk idiom but simply commercially written music trying to maximise earnings rather than written to create heritage to pass down the years. Much of the golden oldies of today I frequently think are only there because of excessive exposure and memory association of listener experience allied with paucity of good lyrics these days. @FrayedBear It could fit into several categories...Music from the Movies would be appropriate too.

I love this movie, and the music with it. Both are beautiful.
