Wow, the Lib-Nat Federal Government must be getting very bloody DESPERATE, they going to budget for Aussie Pensioners, like myself, to receive a 'One OFF' gift(?) of $75 for Singles and $150 for couples to 'OFF-SET' our frigging exorbitant Electricity bills.
Jeez Louise, will their generousity(?) ever cease?
My Electricity bill comes to around $650 per 3 months to which I pay $100 per fortnight BEFORE I even get my pension and they believe a POXY $75 'One Off' gift(???) is going to help with that.
Get your hand off it Freydenberg, that $75 works out to either paying installments of $18.75 every 3 months for just 1 ( ONE) year or one payment of your poxy $75 for 1 quarterly bill, both are about as much use and help as pissing on a raging bush-fire would be.

That is the worst bribe ever.

Running a close second to the one the Nationals candidate ran in the recent N.S.W. election with his 'promise' of $250 Regional Seniors Transport card IF they got elected that is.

In terms of size to respective bill pathetic though I wonder how you use $650/quarter - I'm normally $200-230 / quarter. - I don't use air con or electric heating.
My current gripe is paying almost as much for delivery as for consumption as we now have huge qualities of power produced at local wind farms.

Other than my wood-burning heater in my loungeroom, my house, sadly, is 100% electric dependent plus I often make wooden toys, etc, for needy kids and use some power tools for that as well.

@Triphid ? You probably have a far greater delivery charge as well. I think mine is about $1.44 /day. Just got my gas today - consumption 2 months $2 delivery $46!

@FrayedBear I get 'gas' everyday and still have to pay GST for it when I buy the food that causes it....LOL.

@Triphid have you tried a slug of organic vinegar to get your digestive system working ok?

@FrayedBear I was being humorous actually.

@Triphid yeah humus has me reaching if not retching for the vinegar also.

@FrayedBear sorry typo, I meant humorous.

@Triphid How's your lopsidedness? I was only pulling your leg!?

@FrayedBear i'm always lopsided since my right leg, due to a fractured femur back in the 70's, is about an inch shorter than my left.

Yes, never forget that the free market always does things better.

Duh!

Electricity should be nationalised and run as a non profit essential service.

We have a weak country, weak politicians and weak political parties.

Don't hold out that the ALP will be any better. I don't any more.

Piss poor.

@powder blame the contagion called economic rationalism that swept the western world in the 80s, in Australia thanks to Hawke and Keating.

The Libs-Nats are blatant crooks imo, the Labor Party under Shortonballs (Shorten) is not much better. I still reckon Gough Whitlam was by far the best P.M. post WWII that we've ever had.

@powder NO government should ever permitted to sell off ANY assets owned by the People WITHOUT getting a 98% Yes vote from the People first.
The Governments own NOTHING, we do, we pay for it NOT them.

@powder, @FrayedBear I'd say more tan merely "Piss poor," but the adjectives I used when reading about it were far to crude to publish here or anywhere else.

@powder, @Triphid, @David1955 to you all as the like is still not working ?.

@Triphid, @David1955, @powder In times of true being invaded war, not these "support Yankee bullying and imperial / colonialism wars undertaken to consume munitions and create imaginary prosperity, the nationalisation of the industries mentioned, and more, will occur or Australia will totally lose its imagined sovereignty. I do wonder however if Australia does have sufficient arms and ammunition necessary to issue to the general population in the event of an invasion? Vietnam proved the point that people determined to resist and defeat an invader with superior armament will do so.

@FrayedBear yes, I'm having the same problem. I've tried to show like or love on your comments.

@FrayedBear Australian prosperity is more fragile than our leaders will admit. We should investing in the future, education and technology, but our thinking is regressive.

Wanted to show a "like" but it won't work today.

@David1955 thanks. It is a work in progress but if you are a point hound then reply like this gains two or three more points than a thumb up!

@David1955 for some reason there is an inbuilt and accepted sedition or even treason at play. Back in the '90s and Keating's "Recession that we had to have" I wrote to all leaders and the ABC on a very simple means of increasing Australia's GDP 2-3 fold. The official response as to why it could not be done had been obviated in the first line of my proposal and then I had actually turned the negative into a further positive through the study and application of answers resulting from the study.
At that point my belief in politicians, governments, their advisors and the ability of self-professed intelligent journalists at the ABC simply ceased to exist. As Professor Cipolla said "there are far more stupid people around than you expect - do not underestimate them". [qz.com]

@FrayedBear oh, that's interesting. Didn't know. Thanks. Have some more points.

@David1955 it is still flaki - the green thumb is going of and on! So ?

@David1955, @powder how long has Pine Gap US station been there?

@powder the ?button is working everywhere else but not here so ? and ? to whatever is causing it.

@David1955 ?

@powder we've been part of the Empire since 1941. That's just a fact. You're either part of the Empire or with the Rebel Alliance, that's how it is. They just don't bother to ask us what we think.

@powder I laugh at Chinese ownership of Darwin Port, and a landing strip in WA capable of taking military jets.
