Colonel Ponsonby-Smythe, the Sussex Ponsonby-Smythes y'know, was on holiday and with his wife looking at the lava bubbling in Vesuvius. Close by was an American overheard to say to his blonde companion "Say Maybelline it sure looks hot as hell down there!" The colonel simply remarked to his wife "You know Mary, these damned yanks have been everywhere".
