As a glider pilot I find the spectacular images of clouds fascinating, Particularly with these two pictures
I took of the lenticular clouds shown, they form off mountain ranges which direct the wind to rise suddenly , form a sausage cloud and sink down the other side eliminating the cloud, it then repeats this action forming a string of sausage like clouds across the sky. New Zealand is known as " the land of the long white cloud" This wave cloud indicated to the original sea going arrival of the Maoris, that land was not far away as such formations can only be formed by mountain ranges.

Once I was standing alone on a mountain top well above the tree line, when a loud whooshing sound came from behind me: a glider that was riding the thermals up from the desert below. Both at 9,000+ feet, the pilot waved as s/he circled a couple of times before flying off, one of us in a cockpit, the other with feet on the ground, eye to eye!

yes, you cannot beat the freedom of engine free flight, while you do have an airspeed instrument you can judge speed by the whistle of the airflow across the canopy, if it gets too quiet it is time to lower the nose and increase the airspeed and enjoy the experience.
