Hello everyone, I'm Lisa and consider myself to be both atheist and agnostic. In every sense of the word, I reject religion the way it has been presented to me. I do not have faith in atheism to say that they know the absolute truth either. That being said, I thought I would find this group interesting.

I'm sorry, this phrasing is awkward. "faith in atheism to say they know the absolute truth". who is "they"?

atheism is not a philosophy or set of beliefs, it is the absence of one single belief, it is the answer "no" to the query "do you believe there are any gods?". there is no "they" in atheism. there is not dogmatic reason common to all atheists. there isn't a proposition of atheism, it proposes nothing, it simply rejects a proposition that was presented. atheism does not claim "there are no gods". some atheists do, but many don't.

I have complete confidence in my atheism. I really do lack a belief in gods, I know this for a fact, my lack of belief is a fact of life that I can easily observe.

Consider that an atheist's lack of belief in a god is the same as a believer's lack of belief in the thousands of gods of other religions. And if you believe in the possibility of some sort of god, but not that of a particular reason, what dogma or doctrine do you follow except that of your own devising?

I didn't create this universe and everything in it. so the answer to your question is I don't know. I don't believe humans just eat drink and excrete waste products before they die either. There's a lot that we don't know. if I have a religion it's a religion of Wonder and unanswered questions.

@Kojaksmom Maybe I jumped ahead too far with my reply. But my main objection to your statement was your references to 'faith in atheism' and 'absolute truth'. I saw some objections below to the same thing, so I'll leave it at that for now.

@Rossy92 faith is a loaded word ,but I suppose I just can't find another word to express myself.

How would you label me? a Christian Atheist? for I grew up in a christian culture or what?
I consider myself an atheist that believes in God.
My definition of god is that unknowable ether that resides in the dark void of ultimate reality.

Welcome too. Can we avoid a phrase like 'faith in atheism' and any notion that it means to know 'the absolute truth' . Atheism does not mean these things of course. Cheers.
