Good question. I have never had to do it with my students.

I'm in elementary and from Kinder on we teach about the difference between fantasy and reality. At the same time, I personally teach to respect others beliefs especially as we read about other cultures. The key is teaching to question and test answers in all subject areas. We also need to listen to our students so that they learn they can speak up and ask questions.

I don't feel compelled to explain it other than a very high level. How else do you explain a huge diverse world? From memory there are 20,000 species of beetles. How? Why?

Apart from that, evolution of fruit flies is observable in laboratories daily.
