Just posted this to a newcomer and thought it might be helpful here!

Congrats on your sobriety. I'll be celebrating 18 years soon, me and my "HP" willing!

Being an apatheist AAer, I can say that. I don't care if there is an "actual" "HP" but, in my ever evolving definition of mine, it resembles any of innumerous pantheistic possibilities. Of course, I have no way of proving it nor any inclination to try...it's served me well as is...was...and will be.

While science and math may not disprove the judaic sects, history shows us these religions were designed and revised as a means of population control. This of course should but never will be adequate reasoning for any theist. When that doesn't work, I merely say I have no use of their jealous, murderous, fickle god; whichever version they may be selling.

I need to get to a meeting, having not been to one since I picked up my 15th year chip. I did 3 '90 in 90' meetings (while sober, for various reasons) and served a few in several ways early on. My regular attendance began to wane about my 5th year and after my 10th I began yearly visits, basically "12th stepping" where ever I would roam.

We have a loosely organized group here for unbelievers of all types where we share our experience, strength, hope and sometimes generalizations of our personal HPs along with those who'll explain why (and how) they have none. You're more than welcome to !

There is nobody who loved the 12 steps more than me. After many years of attending I just feel they are antiquated and have to be torn down and redone for a modern world.
