Hi folks; Not been on the site long and still feeling my way around. Have written stuff for years and never tried to publish; the result always seems too personal. Maybe too much ego! More recently have been trying my hand at poetry and shorter prose, as I seem to be a short-dash man rather than a long-hauler. But just checking in and saying g'day- Cheers to you! SjH

I have always preferred writing short stories, and composing "true poetry" as opposed to poetic prose.

@StJohn -- I've been writing and editing since 1956. One of the first things I learned as a writer is that no turn of phrase or choice of word is sacrosanct --- unless it is. The trick is to know when that is the case.

Try being an editor to see how personally authors take their writings - phew. Even after being an editor, as an author, I tend to regard every word I write as my golden progeny, glowing in godlike perfection.
