We're there!

Wow! Well it happened but not as badly. It still might. We don't live in fear. Mostly we live asleep. We ignore what is going on all around us.

Lol, you are not a paranoid American.

@FrayedBear Very true, particularly if Michael Moore is correct in his movies. But living next door to the United States is like "sleeping beside an elephant; every twitch is a bit nerve shaking". ( P.E.Trudeau).

@rogerbenham I would have said a black mamba or red bellied black.

@FrayedBear You Aussies and all of the most poisonous snakes in the world. I went to the boy's loo in my sisters and found a black snake wrapped around the toilet. I guess it takes Aussie balls to happily ignore it.

@rogerbenham No way would it be ignored. The closest that I came to nightime malignant nightlife was a funnel web causing a space blanket lying beside the bed to rustle so loudly it woke me up. The spider had moved on and was silent on the carpet. So hearing nothing I simply lit and smoked a cigarette ashing it in the foot wide ashtray on the floor by the side of the bed. Finishing I rolled over to go back to sleep & heard footsteps on the space blanket! Rapidly switching the light on i found a large rearing funnel web less than 2' from my face. In one fluid movement my slipper was grabbed & used to eradicate the threat.

@rogerbenham not all, the mamba is non native.
Do you have any poisonous snakes in Canada?

@FrayedBear Totally freaky. I'll prefer my freezing mornings.

@FrayedBear There are rattlers in some desert areas of BC on the Washington State border. I believe that Ontario has two or three nasty ones but nothing as incredibly dangerous as Australia. Snakes really don't like cold winters.
I saw mambas in South Africa. Nasty devils. My impression is that the smaller the snake the more deadly it is. Do you agree?

@rogerbenham in 40+ years I've had zero snake encounters so cannot comment. The closest has been road kill and sliders across the road that I've avoided. I once saw a 3` - 3½' unidentified snake being killed by a kookaburra 90' up a gumtree 50' away. The kookas beat them to death against the tree.

@rogerbenham and the bears that knock your head off with one swipe, mountain cougars. . .

@FrayedBear So good to see people happily allowing themselves to be bitten. But the poison collecting I saw at a cobra/mamba farm in South Africa. Collecting venom to make antidotes.

@FrayedBear Know them Cougars are so rare I only once got a glimpse of one in 40 years. The bears usually just take a quick bite. they do not usually eat people. Cougars prefer dogs and cats.

@rogerbenham Kangaroos, emus and cassowary are not carnivours but can all disembowel a fit man.

@rogerbenham Venom collection was shown in the first video and was very different to how I've previously seen it by inseting the poison fangs through a rubber membrane over the top of fairly large jars. Here is a film of it occurring the Reptile Park which was situate in the locality that I lived in for about 30 years, about 50klms north of Sydney.

Only viewers of fox news. The whole of their programing is to instill fear, anger and hate leading to total addiction their programing model. Tobin Smith an ex fox person has written an interesting book and several op-eds on fox programing methods.

@FrayedBear I just HATE it when they get that close LOL.

@FrayedBear, @rogerbenham I found cougar scat on a regular basis on my property when I lived in Cle Elum. Eev had one live trapped on my neighbors place. The cat was tranquilized, measured, weighed, collared and moved to another area. Scary but beautiful kitties.

@rogerbenham

“Kings of Pain” follows wildlife biologist Adam Thorn and professional animal handler Rob “Caveman” Alleva as they get bitten and stung by some of the most dangerous animals and vicious stinging insects in the world – from a reticulated python to a rove beetle – to create a complete and comprehensive pain index that will ultimately help save lives.

@silverotter11 Sorry Silverotter11, FrayedBear and I are inclined to go off chatting far removed from the question asked. One day Administration may tell us to stick to the subject. Boys will be boys.

@silverotter11 Yes I'm told the kiitens of a cougar are lovely. There was a film made by a friend of mine out on the mid coast from here of them playing.

@silverotter11, @William_Mary Pain is an interesting topic on its own. I resist pain killers. At the end my wife was on hydro morphine but it made her very withdrawn; mind you that was also her preparing for the inevitable. I wonder what goes on in the mind of one in the days before an execution.

@silverotter11 Is Fox News a national channel? It was denied entry into Canada (not that I watch TV anyway).

@rogerbenham "prefer freezing morning" how do you prevent your nuts from shattering in such cold. I also take it that if spittle freezes before it hits the ground you cannot write your name in the snow with your early morning urination?

@rogerbenham - pre execution thoughts - possibly relief?

@silverotter11 not quite sure how to read your post. Please walk me through it.

@FrayedBear Sorry a popular myth. I have never seen my pee not melt snow. Even at -45C. Maybe if I stood on a high enough bridge.
It was just a few mornings at -30C. I went to the outhouse wearing moccasins and gloves and a woolly hat and a dressing gown. I was not conscious of any discomfort in my nuts. We move our heat to that area you know.

@silverotter11, @William_Mary the "pain" series looks interesting but I get a 404 message when I try to access the episodes.

@FrayedBear Cougars have been know to take small children. Mountain lion being another name.

@rogerbenham I was talking yesterday with Ann on the St Lawrence R. & she was saying that it was 7°F. I had to explain that last September whilst house sitting in E. Victoria my car parked overnight in the shade had 1" of ice on the roof from condensation freezing - it was I think - 2 or - 3 °C which was the coldest that I had experienced for 40 years.

@rogerbenham Like the dingo - they are carnivours and humans are frequently inattentive parents. In Lindy Chamberlain's case probably too busy proselytising or praying to imaginary creations.

@FrayedBear I love it at -5C. Not all year as I am a gardener. Mosquitoes don't like -5C.

@rogerbenham Ok so long as you are rugged up and not arthritic.

@FrayedBear Yes that would be the Ayer's Rock case. Very sad. Not properly attentive. But why were there not a lot of dogs around warning?

@rogerbenham Get real, that requires care, consideration and brains. Can't scare the tourists off!

@FrayedBear I'm pretty fit ... maybe all the drugs help. I built that log house with only using a chainsaw. Felled 7 acres by hand just using a chainsaw. No truck or tractor.

@rogerbenham how did you haul logs? Ropes & pulleys?

@silverotter11 I never had complaints when my "fangs" got close to the flesh! 😉😜😋😁😳

@rogerbenham fox is evil and I'm glad it is not in Canada. The whole of fox programing is to make people afraid, angry, hateful and addicted to their programing. It's very tribal and throughly disgusting.

@FrayedBear If I could not pull it with a rope then I used a 4 or 5 foot 4" diameter log roller. If I still could not pull it then I used two rollers. In clearing 7 acres I think I only ever used a come-along (ratchet puller). Never used pulleys. In 1988 I built a log building using 24 ft and 18 ft green logs using one hand winch and 4 or 5 come-alongs. My 25 year old suits did not fit because my shoulders grew a lot. I was insanely strong then.

@rogerbenham, @FrayedBear Which one?

@silverotter11 One has to wonder why it is allowed. Surely the duty of government is to protect the people. Here TV and Radio are ruled by the CRTC. We require Canadian content. Hate is not permitted.

@rogerbenham Many wonder the same thing but under the banner of "entertainment" you can apparently get way with anything on American TV. I do not have a TV and quite happy without one.

@silverotter11 I found that I was addicted to the flicker - just had to watch it. Found myself watching absolute garbage. Gave it up in 1979. Now going into pubs (usually just for a meal as my alcohol consumption is little more than two beers a week) I have to find a seat without seeing a vast screen. I did grow to like watching curling because of those huge screens. I have not had a TV since '79 but I don't want to know if I could watch it all on my computer.

@rogerbenham in Australia it was the ABA led by pretty lips lawyer & professor David Flint. He broke the law by giving a radio licence to an American funded evangelical group. He was never charged and his action bankrupted a multi ethnic radio that I was secretary of - it cost us $30,000 to prove in court his illegallity and corrupt behaviour. We still ended up being denied the license. Australia now has a multitude of such stations proselytising and discriminating against Australian citizens.

@rogerbenham, @silverotter11 I succumbed a few months ago and after ten years without tv, and much of my life prior to that, bought a 4K 50" screen. Now I enjoy too many cooking and house renovation shows.

@FrayedBear What a huge TV. Over 4 feet wide. That would be as wide as our TV (The Telly), our gramaphone and all of our records piled between. When I was 13. 78's. We had the St Matthew Passion on 78's but I best liked The Gay Gordons or The Sir Roger de Coverley.

@rogerbenham Records - my mother's fellow Blackburnian Kathleen Ferrier, a few lively classics performed by the Hallé but no religious pieces. The tv is an Aldi Bauhn which cost me just over $AU 400 but a month later was $375. An English ex grammar school acquaintance has a 100" projector but at £2500 too rich for me.

@FrayedBear Kathleen Ferrier did one of the finest renditions of Erbarme dich mein Gott (Have mercy on me God from the JSBach St Matthew Passion, that I ever heard. She was wonderful.
Tough if God offends you that much. Fact is God inspired Bach. Perhaps being paid to write music also. Don't forget that the Mass in B Minor could never be performed in his country.

@rogerbenham Why could the mass not be performed? Her voice was much admired. I was always thankful that she was one of few classical performers who sang folk music well or as it was explained to me recently by the son of a Russian migrant who was a professional musician with the Melbourne SO "remember Max, your audience will not remember your performance because you sing every note perfectly, no they will remember you for the passion, the warmth, the humanity of your singing" and so it was with Kathleen Ferrier.

@rogerbenham OH! Yeah, I understand the addicted to the flicker syndrome 🙂.

@FrayedBear it ask me to sign in with my TV provider. It's going to depend on whether you have the History Channel there I guess.

@FrayedBear The "H Mol" could not be performed because it is in Latin and is a complete Catholic Church Mass. Bach lived in a Lutheran country. He clearly wrote the B Minor for God.

@William_Mary People here have 'The History Channel". They talk about it. I have never seen it.

@rogerbenham Bloody Lutherans. Here is an example from Victoria 25+ years ago.

[news.com.au]

@rogerbenham, @William_Mary I just got it off YouTube after fbuk notification.

@FrayedBear It doesn't actually say that they were Lutherans, just a break away sect.
Just 400 years old concepts. One wonders how much it was talked about 400 years ago.

@rogerbenham The indoctrination comes from Luther. Rational locals still cringe when the murder and injustice (I don't think that anyone served more than 18 months.) The Vollmer woman was described to me as being a "gentle person" by a person who knew her for much of her life.

@rogerbenham Talked about what - murder excused as exhorcism?
