How many people have been up close and personal with a steer or bull ?? Combed the hair between their eyes....given them a salt lick block in their tiny fenced pasture....fed them table scraps from family dishes in the farm house ? Vegetable trimmings from garden harvests? Raked grass clippings from organic lawns ???? And seen the empty 50 foot square feed lot and the 2 freezer full of white paper wrapped remnants of that bellowing steer still echoing in my head from my sister's farm ????? I talk to animals and type here to humans

He wants to live just like we do.

I asked him if the tag in his left ear hurt ? I hosed him down on hot summer days and swatted flies he could not scare off with his tail or shuddering hide....I did get a few tongue licks rubbing his nose...an appreciation of my friendship or wetting the itch I may have caused.....he loved feed corn no matter how hard dry or dusty mold ....he itched and rubbed his own belly & butt on the sides of the tool shed where his corn and bucket for water was stored .....when he first arrived he weighed less than me and stood no higher than a Great Dane dog....tje day he was murdered he was double and a half standing shoulder high to my 6'5" existence.....when I bicycle Iowa I can hear dozens of steers & heifers mooing to each other
.... perhaps the steers confessed they have no testicles to sire a calf in a lovelorn udderless cow....perhaps complaining the medicated corn was not a belly full of food and pasture clover is covered over by 5 inch high piles 18 inch wide dried dung heaps.....
