Hello admin, I had a thought as I was browsing the tags.

To combat "trolls and baiting", can we have a "dislike" button?
Admin comments on Jan 11, 2018:
Just FYI
@admin Can you shed some light on how our 'compatibility' is measured?
Admin comments on Jan 11, 2018:
Sure click the "heart" icon on the profile page (it will show how it's done)
To combat "trolls and baiting", can we have a "dislike" button?
Admin comments on Jan 11, 2018:
Happy to get members' opinion on this as we already have it 90% implemented but holding off for now. Our fear is that "don't like" become more political instead of the goal to find what is the most useful (perhap "best") comment to a post. E.g., not liking what someone said doesn't mean that it's not a good answer. We're thinking "dislike" should be more "bad/weak answer". My current thoughts is to have a "dislike" button but not show who dislike the post NOR the # of dislikes. However, it's used if someone wants to sort by "likes". Thoughts?
What is this site?
Admin comments on Jan 11, 2018:
Hi Jeff - I checked out your login and think I improved the default search results for you. Your profile says you're open to men and women and I think that made the search have problems. There's 62 people within 50 miles of you... yah not much, but still, we're a niche site. A.

It appears that this site is like a lot of other personal sites.....
Admin comments on Jan 10, 2018:
First, my apology for not clearly reading your post. I investigated it and it appears Carol marked her profile as "Paused". I guess my point was that we did have a real member reply to you... which is better than other sites (and we're free). I did use your account and improved the message when you go back to the messenger. Best wishes and good luck!
@Admin what's going on with the insane volume of multi-posts?! Making the site unusable!
Admin comments on Jan 10, 2018:
Send me some links... we just updated code today for editing comment replies perhaps it caused bugs. Ironically, about 10 minutes ago I pushed code that should prevent identical comment replies by the same member on the same comment. Happy to fix.

Anyone else as surprised as I am that there are so many Atheist Republicans on here?
Admin comments on Jan 9, 2018:
This post is a good example of what we're trying to AVOID at agnostic.com. The post is attacking ANOTHER ATHEIST for their political affiliation instead of realizing how important it is that we get MORE atheist Republicans ... or more Republicans turning atheist. Atheist Republicans need as much encouragement as we can offer even while disagreeing polically. They are an oppressed minority within their party. No need to ostracize them here, no? BTW, I'm not bashing you... I really like your comments in general. Just venting myself!
Does anyone know if we have any stats on the average age range of the members here?
Admin comments on Jan 9, 2018:
Oh man... we just put up charts on everything except that (see account -> questions page). Age range is new. We only suggest to make it as wide as possible :)

The system gives more points to better posts both directly and indirectly as other members interact with them. We still have some ideas to improve it. Yours?

I think we created a bug in it yesterday when we were working on a "down" button (hidden for now) where users can click if the comment is off-topic/etc. Hopefully, we can fix the "like" popup list and count by tomorrow. Sorry for the bug. All "likes" are saved in the database correctly (seems like a front-end bug).

Was there a reason why you chose "Agnostic" for this site?
Admin comments on Jan 6, 2018:
Well, it came up on the roulette wheel. I think a common theme among our members is a desire to have clarity based on evidence. One of the first steps for clarity is to be able to say "I wonder". We hope that promoting the term "Agnostic" become helpful when we interact with religious people as it shifts the conversation from one about "belief" to one about "evidence other than gut feelings". This being said, we are also looking at other domains to become a portal into this site. For example, humanist.com

Why is this site a ".com" rather than ".org" or ".net"?
Admin comments on Jan 5, 2018:

There are lots of ways for you to earn points so your level will increase. Take a look at the "Levels" page at http://agnostic.com/levels for more details. The points/level system is just a way to help us reward active members by giving more access and perks to members as they increase their level. I have to admit I'm a little disappointed with how many people are on here talking about religion.
Admin comments on Jan 2, 2018:
This is only our 3rd month and we're evolving the way we are showing posts to steer towards the more positives aspects of community. One way we're considering is to have the posts be more tailored to the members (e.g., if you want to chat about religion, you see more religion oriented posts, etc). Thoughts?
I am pretty new to this site, but is christian slamming a normal part of things here?

The admistration has twice denied a reply I made on the website.
Admin comments on Jan 1, 2018:

Why are we using hashtags, if no one looks them up, before posting?
Admin comments on Jan 1, 2018:
We will be adding a way to show tags as members type posts (below where they are typing) so they could see if the topic was already posted. Still thinking of ways to help merge topics... will need to give an incentive to a new poster to "bump" up an existing topic instead of posting their own. Perhaps have a way for members to make a sub-post under a similar question or we hook one under another.

I've been here a few days, actually level 4..., whatever that means...?
Admin comments on Dec 30, 2017:
I took one of these online questionnaire and found that I'm a "Centrist". Shocking. The word "Conservative" (as well as "Liberal") are easy to vilify as both sides have debatable opinions on specific issues. Better to ask if there are people who have a opinion on a specific issue. While there are very few Trump supporters here, it doesn't mean that "Conservatives" are unwelcome. As our community guidelines say, we try to only debate issues, not people.
Why are posts being deleted?

Admin comments on Dec 29, 2017:
Yes, it is something we want to code up. I have to think about the algorithm to do it as it's computationally complex to do a single pair of compatibilities. If you click on the "Heart" icon at the top of a profile, you can see how the score is calculated. I wrote a similar script decades ago to rank match classmates in high school for a valentine's day fund raiser. Yep, before geeks had cred. Will put this "on the list"... and perhaps let members vote on their favorites.

Hi Kreig... spend a few hours trying to update the sort of similar questions. A few days ago I had to simplify the algorithm as the computer couldn't handle it. The underlying issue is that it's hard to balance "similarness" and "newness"... I totally hacked it now to merge both... so they now show sorta newish similarish questions... that you haven't commented on... and it shows which you viewed. Creepy huh?
How do we, as a community, deal with the inevitable trolls that show up?
Admin comments on Dec 27, 2017:
Nice question! We have several behind-the-scenes tools to identify bad behavior but we rely mostly on you guys. We just updated the "report" and "block" member code today so that it can be used to flag posts that are suspect. Also, if a user gets too many reports, we automatically require their content to be reviewed before it goes live... in a special queue. I'll make an "update" posts in the next couple of days.
Dear @Admin.
Admin comments on Dec 27, 2017:

For KevinJohnson, we are contacting him today and give him his first and final warning and will delete his account if he does anything else disrespectful. One bad apple isn't worth the trouble.
