Is the concept of monogamous marriage secular or religious
Amisja comments on Feb 10, 2019:
Marriage is really a relatively new concept for most people. Or should I say the whole hearts and flowers malarky. For most people, they just shacked up with whoever they liked. Marriage was more about property, wealth and the joining of families. It didn't really matter who the poor married. The OT has tons of variations on a theme and certainly right up until the 18th century most Brits had very simple ceremonies, if at all. I am not married for the first time since I was little more than a child and to be honest, I love it!

China is HUGE. Parts of China have no idea they are communist, let alone leaders of anything. The infrastructure in rural parts is non-existent and the population isn't anywhere near as organised as you'd imagine. I agree there are semi-large pockets of industrial might and technology to match the west but they are not interested in military intervention, they want your money. As the Chinese population falls (and it will), they will become increasingly better educated, they will demand higher wages, better employment rights etc etc... Now you want a country that really will become an industrial and technological giant...India.

Amisja comments on Feb 10, 2019:
Hoping this advice isn't out of date, there are a group of well served and well connected shelters across the entire USA (I worked as a front line counsellor for one). They have strong connections with local and state police. I remember we managed to get a family from Mesa AZ to Alaska into a safe house there. They are experts and they offer counselling to children and Mums. Boys are at risk of becoming abusers themselves or taking retribution on parents. It is good of you to care for them, but they will need professional help.
Today it is two weeks that I haven't been out of the house for more than five minutes.

Cosmetic chemicals may trigger early puberty in girls - Big Think
Amisja comments on Feb 9, 2019:
Hormones in milk will do that before make up. Earlier puberty is linked to cancer in sex organs (Breast, cervical, ovarian and womb). Women are meant to have very few menstrual cycles which should begin at 18 years and between pregnancies, a longer post-natal non reproductive period, alongside much longer breast feeding proffered a natural protection against these cancers. The desire for lots of babies, reduced or no breast feeding and girls having babies younger and younger means puberty is commencing at around 11 years..or even earlier. I read a really interesting paper on it once, women's bodies have evolved massively to meet societal requirements.

Is Suicide A Sin If You’re A Theist (or Just Plain Wrong If You’re An Atheist)?
Amisja comments on Feb 9, 2019:
It is a final solution to what is often a temporary problem. Having attended 4 suicides and many many attempts, my experience is that the vast majority want a change to their current situation rather than to no longer exist. Amisja comments on Feb 9, 2019:
I love it. I love the scratchable surface of the Bronze age minds, how people thought and believed. The Hebrew Bible and the RC apocrypha, are trully amazing. Some bits are broadly based on facts, some are based on much older religious traditions, lots and lots are just stories. I believe strongly that we don't have all the answers and we lost more than we currently know. Ultimately all that amazing power and stunning intellect and a group of people without the self confidence to own it. I believe it is very important that we listen to thise extremely ancient voices.

Oh so sorry for your experiences. I worked with a woman who was one of 18, her mother drank and her father was a farm labourer here in North West England. When she ran home and told her Mum the priest had touched her inappropriately, her Mum belted her and told her to keep her gob shut telling her, "you wanna eat don't ya?". As a rather spoilt young woman from a non-believing background, I was horrified.

I got called for jury service when I lived in Arizona. I called them and said, 'Happy to come but I am British'. That did the trick, they never asked me again ;). Amisja comments on Feb 6, 2019:
People with Trisomy 21, have the right to a full life in the same way as everyone else, however they are more likely to experience suffering with cardiac and respiratory problems, the males are virtually all sterile, around 94% develop altzhiemers and they live shorter lives. Choice must be respected, trisomy 21 is not heredity so it is not as though terminations will produce less children with this variation, over time. I respect their choice and I so glad it was never mine to make.
