What about Joe Biden? Barack Obama put him in charge of curing cancer. He made a campaign promise to cure cancer. If Joe can cure cancer, bringing the Texas power grid back up should be a piece of cake. I hear Joe has fantastic power engineering skills!

Let's say a natural disaster hit Illinois: Do you blame Joe Biden (the President) for insufficient response? Do you blame JB Pritzker (the Governor) for insufficient response? Those two would be the most likely targets because they have resources at their disposal. Do you blame Dick Durbin (our senior Senator). Sounds a little nuts. Do you blame Tammy Duckworth (our junior Senator). Sounds a lot nuts. Your getting all spun up over Ted Cruz (Texas's junior Senator) is every bit as nuts as getting spun up over Tammy Duckworth's failure to solve a weather-related disaster in Illinois. Were you guys all spun up when California was burning in 2020 and Kamala Harris (California's junior Senator) was traveling around? Should Kamala have put on firefighting gear and joined the firefighters on the front lines?

Greg Abbot: Has the resources of the Executive Branch of the Texas Government under his control. John Cornyn: Has no resources, but he's the senior Senator from Texas. Why all to focus on Ted Cruz rather than on the other three?

@barjoe This is a perfect example of leftist hypocrisy. When Katrina hit New Orleans, everyone was calling for GWB's head because he didn't solve the problems quick enough. Fair enough, the President is in control of FEMA and has tremendous resources at his disposal as head of the Executive Branch. Now when there is another weather related disaster in Texas, why not hold the Biden Administration responsible. Joe has control of FEMA and all the resources at his disposal. Why is it Ted Cruz's responsibility to restore power to Texas? Were they demanding that the Louisiana Senators fix all the Katrina-related problems?

BD66 comments on Feb 18, 2021:
Ted Cruz is a lawyer, not a power engineer. He has nothing to add to bringing the Texas power grid back up. His only skill is talking, and he can talk just as well in Cancun as he can from his office in Texas.

@Robecology I have a PhD in statistical signal processing, and Dawkins has a PhD in Biology, so he knows a lot more about Biology than I do, but he's extremely sloppy in talking about statistics and probabilities. If you express an Agnostic's belief in pure probability terms, and Agnostic believes: The probability that some form or God (or some controlling entity) exists is between 0 and 1. Dawkins has stated that an Agnostic believes: The probability that some form or God (or controlling entity) exists is 0.5. That's why his definition is terrible.

There is nothing in the definition that states the probability of God existing is 50%.

@Lizard_of_Ahaz Lots of points there: You still fail as this country uses a progressive tax so all money in the first tier id taxed at that rate then the second tier is used then the third and so on so the actual rate is less than 90% BLD> It was a simple example. and if the company's strategy is right the not only pay very little in taxes on company A but also have happier investors paying larger dividends to them so stock prices go up. In the case of company B they just send the money to an offshore bank and let it sit drawing interest but doing nothing for the economy. BLD> Dividends get paid out of after-tax income, so Company A had $100,000 to split between dividends and reinvestment. Company B had $1,400,000 to split between dividends and reinvestment. That's what made Company B so attractive to investors, so Japan and West German stocks had an amazing run when they were receiving all the subsidies from Uncle Sam. This is the problem we have now with over 30 trillion dollars sitting in banks doing nothing those companies are paying no taxes on. BLD> $30T sitting idle in banks is a problem. They would pay taxes now if they received any interest on the cash. In this country alone we have fake charities owned by billionaires hoarding an additional 1.7 trillion at last count doing nothing charitable at all.... BLD> I agree 100%. Jeff Bezos is sitting on $150,000,000,000 in unrealized capital gains and his ex-wife is sitting on $50,000,000,000 in unrealized capital gains. That money will never be taxed because it will go into the Bezos family trust. The real issue here is you think of sociopaths as altruistic... They only want money and power... BLD> Off topic. No reason to respond.

I agree with you that Trump has not done enough to convince people to wear masks, but neither has Fauci. It doesn't make sense to vilify Trump and worship Fauci. They are the #1 and #2 people responsible for the fact that many Americans refuse to wear masks.

They had enough sense to wear masks in China, Singapore, Korea, and Hong Kong early in 2020, and those countries beat Covid-19 pretty quickly. However here in the USA, our "Leading Expert" was a dishonest arrogant little fool who told everyone they did not need to wear masks. Even after the dishonest arrogant little fool openly admitted he lied to the American public on 3/8/2020, a large portion of the country still uses his statements on 3/8/2020 as a justification not to wear masks, or not to "trust the experts".

@brentan My friend spent some time digging up the stats. Here are his results: Some stats on murder from 2017. Got the data from two sources: (1) FBI crime database and (2) Washington Post database of police killings. (I'll add links to the sources in the comment section.) Please let me know if you find a bug. Some observations: First, the percent killed by the police is higher than I would have guessed. Secondly, if you are murdered, you are more likely to be killed by the police if you are white than if you are black. That was a little bit surprising to me. Another observation is that being shot and killed by police when you are unarmed is very rare. In absolute terms is was 69 people of all races in 2017, or around 0.00002% of population in a given year, or around 1 in 5 million. Here is the reference he used for analysis: https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2017/crime-in-the-u.s.-2017/topic-pages/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-6.xls?fbclid=IwAR1M9f4GFyCZsnrRoC6EdW0xTq9A22XhEdliJd6O6gvw03PUmmhoH8DbX1E

@brentan Here is the best source I can find: The time has come for a national reckoning on race and policing in America. But, the issues are thorny and the conclusions one can draw about racial bias are fraught with difficulty. The most granular data suggest that there is no bias in police shootings (Fryer (forthcoming)), but these data are far from a representative sample of police departments and do not contain any experimental variation. https://scholar.harvard.edu/files/fryer/files/fryer_police_aer.pdf

@brentan The only statistics available show that a white man who is going to be arrested is more likely to be killed by police than a black man who is going to be arrested.
