I witnessed a helo rescue in 72 from rising flooded river after the hurricane Agnes. Two guys caught in a tree. The weird thing is i missed the first two attempts with a helo like that. They failed. They ended up using a state police helicopter- one of those like you see in MASH. Dropped a line, and one guy wrapped it around and held on and they carried him aloft to safety, then repeated the action. Wonder if they would do that in today's litigious world.

He is great and a magnificent story teller. One of my favourite story songs is Cleaning Windows. A nice narrative and a lessen on economics- as he sings about a time when even an average window washer could make a living wage.

I never experienced war. Something said is so true: people die in training. Three guys on two deployments at sea died on my ship. And the one will always be a 20 year old in my mind.

I like the monument, thanks. I never say happy for Memorial Day myself though. I often go visit my Dad's grave this day. He served in WWII and Korea. Pretty sure he had untreated PTSD - He was a medic. I found out he was a triage medic on the front - nurses know that job and historians know how different it was then than now.

My son likes to quote something I am to have said once teaching literature: All literature is true, except the names and dates; all history is made up except the names and dates. I may have said it, however, I am sure I borrowed it from somewhere.

I was afraid, for a moment, you were going to post the new G film trailer. The film looks horrendous, however, the person who chose the song for the trailer firmly had their tongue in cheek or were just as stupid as the others.
