I love being physically active, bike riding, walking and swimming. I've always been an adrenalin junkie but slowing down a bit these days. Politically left, reject most prejudices and always open to new experiences and ideas. I love challenges to my beliefs and attitudes as they help me grow and I love to argue err..debate.
I have strong feminist attitudes: the women in my family are tough and I love them that way.
I'm on here because I wish to talk to and develop friendships with different people from different backgrounds. Not really here for a relationship because I'm an old bastard and I think I'm too set in my ways for anyone to put up with for long, and I like my own company. I wouldn't say no to a relationship, but not expecting anything.

Perhaps instead of thinking of yourself as something or someone, you could think of yourself as a dynamic process. The process continually changes but it remains a separate thing, perhaps like a wave or a tornado. In one sense the same process but continually changing make up and form.

I didn't watch the video, but a couple of states in aussie have completely deregulated it with a couple still lagging. But isn't it about bloody time we stopped legislating on how women can use their bodies? Who would dare legislate around men's bodies but women have had to put up with controls on their access to the pill, abortions and on who and how they can have sex and what they accept for having sex. They can give it away, they can accept a gift, but not ask for a gratuity. What's next, how many people they can have sex with? What bullshit. Why are there any limitations at all?

Religion offers nothing that we can't find outside of it. Faith in ourselves, worship of our community or environment if that's what you need, social support in our community. Perhaps if our general community was more supportive, encouraging and mutually protective we wouldn't need to imagine a god to provide it. That imaginary thing could not then be coopted to meet the purposes of predatory people or organisations

Cyklone comments on Apr 17, 2020:
Don't fight battles you don't have to. This is an important rule of having a more peaceful life. Don't forget it. There is no need to confront your parents with your beliefs unless you want to go into a battle with no winners. I'm nearly 70 and when I talk to my mother, it's yes mum, yes mum etc and then I wander off happy in my beliefs and she wanders off happy with her loving son. You may think that hypocritical but I know that when you're a parent, there's a lot of things you do not want to know. This is one of them..It's right up there with your daughter telling you about her cycle. 😬
Hmm. Critical thinking. It's hard. Why?
Cyklone comments on Apr 17, 2020:
I believe that to think that there is always a right answer is failing to grasp the multiple contexts of some issues. Eg. A man steals a vastly overpriced medicine to save his daughter's life. Should he be punished? How? Problems can have an economic context, an environmental context, a legal context, an ethical context and many other different contexts. The "right" answer will depend upon the context within which it's posed and who decides which is the most important context because sometimes the answers from within one context are diametrically opposed to the answer from within another. Eg, environmental vs employment questions, so it's not just a matter of understanding all the contexts. It also involves a subjective, agent relative choice as to which context to use and as such can not be seen as an objectively "right" answer.

Cyklone comments on Apr 16, 2020:
I've seen it in couples where the male cheats and at other times where the female cheats. Generally speaking, males cheat because they can and females cheat because there is something missing in the primary relationship, but that is by no means a rule and I knew one woman who generally had 4 or 5 on the go, other than her husband, who lived in blissful ignorance most of the time. I've seen couples who regard it as an opportunity to grow and others who just pull the pin. The only constant I've seen in those that continue successfully is the degree of respect remaining between the couple.

How do you respond to someone who says "I love you" when you don't feel the same?
Cyklone comments on Apr 13, 2020:
I think that when those words are used all the time they cease to have any real meaning. I've also noticed that for some people those words should be replaced with "I own you". In my experience, the attraction to family is so visceral that they're the only words that make sense. Like my children and siblings, I love them on a very deep level, but sometimes they really piss me off. I hate it when those words are said just to get a similar response as well, and from a partner I'll frequently just respond "that's nice" and maybe later say I love you when I feel like saying it. "Love ya" is not something I'd say because it seems like just a other form of goodbye. Very casual and meaningless

Searching for a soulmate is futile. Your thoughts?
Cyklone comments on Apr 12, 2020:
I think the idea of a soulmate is corrupt bullshit. It locks people into the idea that somewhere out there is "the one". Or "how can I leave him if he's my soulmate, there'll never be a other". It undermines critical and autonomous thinking. There is no soul and even as a metaphor it conceals the idea that relationships take work, they're not magically perfect and there are many who could be good mates.

Cyklone comments on Apr 12, 2020:
It's going to hurt, it's going to hurt for a while and it may never stop hurting. It's like a huge weight lands on your shoulders and although it may not go away, you learn to be strong enough to carry it. Try writing a letter of goodbye and take your time doing it. That can help you get stronger. Drugs and alcohol only postpone the pain which you'll eventually have to face anyway but with interest. I lost a brother 2 years ago and I still weep at his loss, when no-one is watching. Most of the time I'm fine. It just sucks. Take care.

Cyklone comments on Apr 11, 2020:
Perhaps if you were the victim and you found it possible to forgive. But if you're not the victim then it's not up to you. And just because they might be forgiven doesn' t mean they shouldn't spend their lives in prison. I might forgive a dog for biting my child, but I'd still shoot it. In the case of people, punishment serves several purposes and one of them is to discourage others, so they need to be seen to serve their sentences.

Is gender a social construct?
Cyklone comments on Apr 11, 2020:
It might have been better to call it sex (xx or xy) and "gender orientation". There is quite a lot of evidence to suggest gender orientation is biologically determined. For instance, the percentage of homosexuality is fairly consistent across cultures (4%), and can also be seen in rats and dogs. It is a short step from there to surmise that many other gender orientations are biological as well. I suspect that gender orientation exists on a spectrum biologically (or several spectrums) and those who are closer to the centre of the spectrum can be influenced environmentally. Personally, I think, who cares. If I meet someone I don't say, before I shake your hand who do you fuck? I'm also a bit envious of bi's. Twice as many possible partners 😂
The "care" package my daughter sent me while we were in quarantine, so we would not go crazy.
