Are we still a primitive species?
DangerDave comments on Sep 25, 2018:
Compared to? We only have our own flawed historical references to relate to our species in the present day. Given the social, political, intellectual, environmental,...state of world affairs today I think we've taken some huge steps backwards in our evolution in recent decades. I try to remain hopeful but our continued refusal to learn from our past mistakes may very lead to our demise in the not too distant future.

"Faith is Pretending to Know Things You Don't Know
DangerDave comments on Sep 23, 2018:
Did you read the group description? Apparently not. The definition of *faith* as proposed in this group is the most common first one given by most dictionaries, this one from Google: *complete trust or confidence in someone or something.* I have faith I'll take my next breath, based on the simple fact I have done so several million times before. Beyond such simple assumptions, the faith of each individual ***agnostic*** becomes more nebulous. If you are a dogmatic atheist (one who believes *there is no god, science is god* or some other unprovable, presumptuous and preposterous conclusion) this is probably not a group for you.

DangerDave comments on Sep 21, 2018:
I might have thought that way if it had crossed my mind before my first job as an Atlanta "street kids" counselor. Being we worked only with non-violent offenders, most had prostitution charges and all were "trafficked"...you just didn't work the streets without being "owned". This was a one year "crash course" for our "clients" or it was back to fulfill their court sentences from day one. If we couldn't reconcile with the families we'd go through the relatively easy process of finding foster homes or, if they were close enough to 16, their legal emancipation. Then came the much more difficult procedures of seeing they became self-sufficient through employment or, in rare cases, full tuition college scholarships. It was an immediate crash course for me, being the narcissistic artist I am. To hear what these kids had been through in a group session then to see them immediately become very focused at doing everything from their chores to studying for the GED or searching every local paper available for work and training prospects was...enlightening. Yes, there were "victims" doomed to fail the program but most by far were victors, survivors who took every opportunity for improvement. Either way, I could only empathize with them...anyway... What would I have thought before? I believe I would still have been empathetic. People both endure and submit others to horrors I've experienced very little of myself. I have no way of knowing, of course, but I like to think most of us feel that way.
Wonder what that would be like.

DangerDave comments on Sep 21, 2018:
Yes, "faith is fact" in that people have faith, even if it's merely faith they will take their next breath. Perception equals projection. I'm not so concerned with what others believe as what they do as a result of those beliefs.

Are common interests important to you?
DangerDave comments on Sep 19, 2018:
Essential. Of course I usually date only performers I've worked with or models who've learned parts of my "mythology" well enough to portray a character. Alone time is important too but that's never an issue. Between work, socializing (for work) and dates (where we usually discuss work) we've all pretty much mutually decided any free time is "me time".
Get off our country! :-D

Correlation between success of relationships/friendships and region you're from?
DangerDave comments on Sep 19, 2018:
There was a time...I'd actually found a study done in the 80s while doing some research for a Sociology class. It basically stated the obvious: people are more likely to form lasting bonds with those in their geographical areas. Primary obvious reason: ability to make and maintain these contacts. With the advent of the internet its definitely time for a new study. While this is far from a statistical analysis, this article does provide some insight. *Distance Is the New Closeness* by Aaron Ben-Zeév Ph.D. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/in-the-name-love/201401/distance-is-the-new-closeness

DangerDave comments on Sep 18, 2018:
Absurdity. Men are born babies. There is much a boy will learn before he reaches an age he's even able to rape and, as history shows, most men don't rape regardless of how terrible their upbringings may have been. I'm all for the Me Too Movement and consider myself a Feminist (from a Humanist perspective). I'm no sociologist but don't need to to tell you this "theory going around" is not helpful to either cause.

I'll admit I did a few times back in my much younger (and MUCH drunker) days, especially at events I performed or was otherwise "alpha". I've come to see such behavior as a result of insecurity and immaturity, at least in my case. Since I started college, I've dated very few women I didn't get to know well first. "Random encounters" have happened but, if she doesn't drop the hint or doesn't take mine, I'm happily on my way. Because in the most recent...long time I've dated much younger women only after working with them in some artistic capacity, "romantic dates" have become fewer and further between. That's fine with me...my superego surpassed my libido long ago.

DangerDave comments on Sep 17, 2018:
In a nutshell, a football player (Colin Kaepernick) "took the knee" while the national anthem played before games. This is done by many players as a protest against police brutality towards blacks but taken as unpatriotic, even treasonous, by our conservatives...ie, tRump followers. Still, Nike hired Kaepernick for an ad campaign, after which conservatives at first boycotted Nike then started burning their shoes. That could be a small part of the reason Nike stock is up. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2018/09/16/nike-sales-brisk-despite-kaepernick-controversy/1307506002/

H...Well, several will judge you no matter what you do. Whether you're married or not, have children or not, fly kites or not,...shouldn't be the basis for character judgements...but can and will be. It seems to me, the more a person draws such conclusions about others the more character defects they themselves have. Judge me however you will for whatever you will. Depends on your definition of falling in love but...why? Enjoy your life and try to find those who share your interests. I'm "in love" with well over 100 models and actresses, mostly those I've worked with and a few I keep in touch with. My situation is unique but the message remains the same: too many people put so much emphasis on being in a "relationship" they can't enjoy the things they truly love in life.

I LOVE Renaissance festivals...I played at several, including the many SCA events held in the Atlanta area c.1985-95 then toured them as a lutelinst solo and with several performance groups, most often my own Tales from the Last Inn. Dance contests of most types, competitive cheerleading, women's gymnastics...even in my sports I'm stuck on well toned female forms. It's business as well as pleasure though. I've recruited many performers from such events. I've worked with a lot of "fly girls" (those who get tossed into the air, for any who didn't know) and similar alphas who look forward to the attention of being the only (or lead) "front" in a stage show. I've thought about the correlation of lack of interest in religion and sports. I've just never understood the appeal...the absolute mania...created by a bunch of sweaty guys jumping all over each other. (So apparently being a catholic is totally out for me, huh?)
