Have you done anything nice for yourself lately? :- )

DangerDave comments on Feb 20, 2018:
At least you have a plan...and some time...and some projects... If it's any consolation I have about a month staying in a weekly rental, also with a broken down car and recovering from a massive lupus outvreak. I'll have to sell the car for junk in maybe two weeks...soo... I'm sending out resumes for a new job and I'll schedule any interviews for next week...just a little more recovery time so I have a chance of getting the jobs. My birthday will be during this "vacation" week...I won't be able to afford to do more than a special meal but I have far more than enough to keep me entertained here... So we're sharing our misery...but let's continue to be proactive and not be too miserable about it!
Yea I have ereptile dysfunction.
DangerDave comments on Feb 20, 2018:
Timely. I'm between jobs and was just getting around to sending out resumes. "Just" is a relative term.
What is your biggest fear?
DangerDave comments on Feb 20, 2018:
My biggest fear is of people I don't know asking what my biggest fear is so they can use my biggest fear against me. Just kidding. That's a hard one because I've grown up being able to rationalize fear, largely through the help of my maternal grand/father figure who remembered and taught me the Cherokee "old ways". FDR summed it up well... *The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.* Any fear of a prolonged, painful death are gone now. Through several massive injuries and diseases, been there done that. During those times I often welcomed death as I remembered the good times...not as the "flash" some describe so perhaps I was never that close...though I was close enough to accept it. *“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”* ? Frank Herbert, Dune

I used to think there was no bad pizza...then someone talked me into trying that pineapple and ham travesty. It's all in the eye of the beholder. Here in the land of humanists we tend to be more altruistic but, even so, by our own definitions. Everyday ethics are easy but I do struggle with the debatables such as the death penalty. I don't at all with climate deniers and holy warriors...but instead of "evil" I tend to see them as destructive and dangerous to the future of humanity. Which brings me back to the death penalty...I just don't see the establishment of theist concentration camps ever catching on.

WARNING: CONTROVERSIAL POSTS ON AGNOSTIC.COM ARE SUBJECT TO CENSORSHIP IF THEY DO NOT PROMOTE ...
DangerDave comments on Feb 19, 2018:
CREATIVES, OH YE ARTISTS & ARTSY, CARRY ON!!! I have absolutely no doubt this post will be removed possibly along with the group and, if I am not "censored" with it, I've frankly about had it with this site. Any members reading this *may* be allowed to take over this group. There is no reason you couldn't start a similar one with or without me. Hopefully with an easier to read title.
Any other writers in the group?
DangerDave comments on Feb 19, 2018:
Welcome! I am! My works are primarily fantasy but I've written articles on just about every subject, as a "professional writer" most successfully as a promotional article biographer for models (usually as their webmaster/content provider) and as a "mythical" songwriter for my act *Tales from the Last Inn*. I had pieces of the first five chapters of my novelized D&D campaign...lost on floppy discs decades ago. I plan to get back to them but I'm still involved with the act and resultant *Tales' 'Toons* from the modeling work I do, often for my act leads. *Dance for You?* currently in the photos (that is, until they too are censored!) is a truncated example of these "graphic novellas". I'll experiment here as well by adding my *Little Book of Sara*, which covers the first trilogy of my yet to be rewritten fantasy epic. Now, let's see if they appear in the photos from a comment... Nope...I've apparently been disallowed from posting photos... *sigh* ...see my most recent post...
Your feelings about ADULT CONTENT on this site?
DangerDave comments on Feb 19, 2018:
So this post has become a moot point. From a message between me and Admin after discovering many posts removed, including those in a group clearly marked *WARNING: MATURE ARTISTIC CONTENT* ***Me: ...Random censorship is the "policy" as I see it so far.*** *** @Admin : Yes, until you can come up with a reason why having adult content on this site improves our ability to promote atheism.*** Not a single one of these posts contained anything that could be remotely considered "adult content" in that none contained nudity and any might be seen in any women's magazine, any ad for a cologne or cosmetics, in any PG rated movie. My days, even hours, may be limited here for exposing this OR for saying this: As an agnostic I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO DESIRE TO PROMOTE ATHEISM!!! I find it as dogmatic in theism in that SCIENCE!!! is treated as an end all, be all of all knowledge; SCIENCE!!! is considered infallible and, as a result, SCIENCE!!! is treated as a dogma that must be preached and proselytized. So apparently any post you make can be censored if it doesn't promote atheism and it is the least bit controversial though the owners chose the deceptive title agnostics.com I am completely disillusioned with this site. I plan to stay to meet like minded people and assist unbelievers transition into whatever they wish to consider as real possibilities...while warning them against what I've come to call "fundamentalist atheism" as described above. I also plan to meet like minded people interested in my art, those interested in assisting with its realization, and those I may develop special relationships with as a result. IF you are a fundamentalist atheist, retain the prudishness of your theist background OR are prude simply by nature, PLEASE just block me now. I don't want to know you and I definitely do not want to waste a single breath or keystroke "debating" you about what you could not possibly know.

DangerDave comments on Feb 18, 2018:
Wow...could I go on...I consider my "creations" to "exist" to a degree...possibly in some distant reality with too many definitions of reality... And are they even my own? I entertain several possibilities of a cosmic consciousness which far transcends the physical worlds' realities to which only we creatives are attuned. In the end I have no idea why I'm so compelled to say, sing and show stuff to entertain others. I just know I like it. ;)
Science fiction or science fantasy?
DangerDave comments on Feb 17, 2018:
Swords and sorcery fantasy, sometimes referred to as high fantasy. Stands to reason, since I write my best material high. So Tolkien, of course. The series that caught my attention was the pulp Dragonlance series based on D&D, which had over 150 books at last count. The original trilogy was by far the best.
I recently downloaded two books for men, on relating to women and how to have a great relationship....
DangerDave comments on Feb 17, 2018:
Most women I'd say offhand and in a nutshell are looking for emotional and financial security: a man who will be there for them and provide for them, or at least share in that responsibility in this brave new world of relationships. Luckily for me I'm an artist and I find my best matches are fellow artists who share that primary drive, above and beyond any desires for committed relationships.
Waste of Time Hall of Fame. What stupid thing have you wasted too much time on?
DangerDave comments on Feb 17, 2018:
I'd like to say video games but I play some cerebral video games. Fantasy, sci-fi, horror RPGs...I've come to enjoy interactive fiction more than reading...but then I'm one of those people who turned D&D into several literary and performance projects, some of which have been very profitable. Besides, sometimes I just need some mental maturbation... So I'll have to "steal" yours...though I'll call it arguing over debating. I can walk away from a debate with a greater understanding, if of nothing else the person I debated with. Arguing religion however was a, if not the, major factor I was ostracised by most of my family at an early age. I won't take all the blame for that. When some of your earliest recollections are of being told "only bad people don't believe" (as if my family were saints!) and the ever popular "you'll go to hell" I could only contain myself so many years. When I finally started defending my position it wasn't pretty. I have absolutely no use for such "debates" but when I do I find myself in one I'm about an inch away from that belligerent five year old, especially when presented with dubious "facts" of faith including the common "it hasn't been empirically proven so it can't possibly be true" mentality you often see on this site. Not to say I don't enjoy it at times but it's about as useful as debating hemorrhoids, or even debating with one.

DangerDave comments on Feb 17, 2018:
This is one of my many reasons for a continued mistrust of science. No, it was never part of growing up southern baptist...it was pouring over so much conflicting "research" each presented as factual. In that way (as many), science mirrors religion. You bring up a very valid concern of "bad science"...in so many ways it is used to put profits before people. In the same vein, I was disgusted but not surprised the NRA, in response to the Parkland shooting, issued a statement that there is no valid research that proves easy access to assault weapons is related to mass murders in which assault weapons are used. Really?!? And people ask why I'm agnostic.
1 Corinthians 16:22 - "If anyone does not love the Lord—a curse be on him." wtf.
DangerDave comments on Feb 17, 2018:
WTF, really! I "cap" it because I consider the people who are discriminated against and even murdered daily because of this mentality.
Is the idea of calling someone atheist strange?
DangerDave comments on Feb 16, 2018:
Being agnostic (as an adjective and a noun) not at all. I find the definition (and distinction) quite useful, especially in forming relationships with them. We'll generally have as much to "agree to disagree" on as would a theist and me.
What do you know well enough to teach others?
DangerDave comments on Feb 16, 2018:
BA Orchestral Music Education so, in many private institutions, that qualified me to teach any subject I've studied, even one course. I was tasked (not asked) with teaching Spanish in one private school though I hadn't studied it myself since high school. With six years and three major changes I was informed too late I had minors in Dance, Drama and Behavioral Science. My interest in a Chemistry major died the first year, which at least way overshot my science and math prerequisites for a liberal arts degree. The added Education major tacked on even another year. With a three year "performance break" that was nine years spent as an undergrad. That was "career student" enough for me, as was five years of formal teaching enough of institutional education as well. Having worked in counseling, management, public relations, human resources, supervision, web design, graphic arts...there are several other subjects I've taught but I only considered being a scientist till my freshman year. I'm an artist at heart and these days I teach performance skills exclusively to my act leads.

Is there a non-cringy way of telling someone you think they look nice on a given day?
DangerDave comments on Feb 16, 2018:
"Nice" is a word I hardly use...I'd think if you sincerely told someone they looked nice you'd stand a better chance of seeming boring than creepy. "Awesome, fantastic...lovely, beautiful"...if you know them well enough (and not just in the buybullical sense) "hot, sexy"...it's all about sincerity in my experience. Responses will vary but delivery is the key...there are cringy ways to say "hello" if you think about it.

"Their" version of god is wonderful, beautiful and all powerful no matter who he's telling them to hate. They will only ever change their belief if they themselves can see it is false. You may leave them with that seed of doubt...the most important thing to do in my opinion is leave them as soon as you see you're involved in a circular argument...unless you just enjoy wasting time. http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/cruelty/long.html

It's been far too long to remember any titles, most were very generic, but when I was immersed in the studies of philosophies and religions (c.70-80) there were a tremendous amount of xian propaganda books masquerading as such in our local library. Usually in the first chapter you would be introduced to "this belief is disproven by the buybull..." and a further scan showed these books just another vehicle for xian indoctrination. No, thank you. "Care of the Soul" by Thomas Moore is one of my all time favorite books but any mention of xianity is made from a philosophical standpoint with those of many other mythologies given equal standing.

Hi Serenity! Ask yourself this though...do you *believe* in these things or consider the possibilities of them? I've had several personal "paranormal" experiences, some with what one might immediately call ghosts, but there are several other possibilities as well. Do I believe in ghosts as such manifestations? Certainly. I've seen them. Do I believe these to be actual spirits of the departed? No, but I consider it a compelling possibility in the absence of confirmed evidence against. I am, after all, an agnostic. Sound like you may be one too. Either way, I see these events and other spiritual phenomenon as completely natural but as yet unexplainable occurrences.

So the world is less one environmental doctor who planned to make designer drugs in his spare time. I was already a "local legend" musician and, at 17, partying was much more attractive than studying so college could wait three more years. I'm also an apathetic agnostic so I have no "platform" I need to assert or protect. Except maybe I like chocolate. DangerDave comments on Feb 12, 2018:
I can't decide but its a close call between Rocky Horror and Repo. I'm a classically trained "metal head" and didn't develop an appreciation for classical music till college...which generally didn't include period opera. I'll make an exception for Wagner, especially *Der Ring des Nibelungen*. That rocks.
Conspiracy theories?
DangerDave comments on Feb 12, 2018:
When they are proven do they cease to be conspiracy theories? Watergate, Russian election meddling... The reverse as well...I come from a family whose religion include flat earthers, climate change deniers, white supremacists...any evidence to the contrary are conspiracies of godless liberals. I "entertain" some but as a substitute for religion? My "religion" is enjoying my life to the utmost and creating because I'm driven to do so. Anything else is an ADD, possibly AD&D (2nd ed) , "ooooh shiny" distraction that will be irrelevant in a matter of minutes.
Thank you, God, for this food to nourish my body...

Religion Without the Facts

Well, if you have the facts it's no longer religion.

Why argue about God or any belief?
DangerDave comments on Feb 11, 2018:
I see religion as having qualities of a mental illness or addiction. One must be ready to give up the "security" of the disorder in order to heal. You can lead the horse to water, of course, but to drink is their choice. I have had that honor of assisting in that "awakening" several times but never by making the decision for them and definitely never following a heated debate. It is counter productive to put someone on the defensive about what they've held as core beliefs, possibly since childhood. "Is faith or belief premised on rationality?" Generally, no and definitely not with religions. Faith is the antithesis of rationality. All you need to do is take a rational look at religious rituals to understand this.
Has anyone heard of an Atheist church? How to get one started.

DangerDave comments on Feb 11, 2018:
Since you asked... When you get to the point you think it's going to get serious OR you want it to, bring it up. For a lot of people, religious disagreements are deal breakers. Remember, whatever she says now, she will probably want your kids to attend her church.
Do you think other people generally see you, as you see yourself?
DangerDave comments on Feb 11, 2018:
Idk, idc & idm I know I'm extreme in several areas, especially artistically and socially. I'm a "niche" artist in many fields, some I've created myself. If I was ever really concerned about what people thought I'd be much more conventional, as an artist and a person. In a way it's apathy, dudeism in action (???), but moreso its being comfortable in my own lupus scarred skin. If anyone doesn't like it it won't spoil my day.
Agnostic Spiritual and/or Religious People?
DangerDave comments on Feb 11, 2018:
Welcome! I see you've a lot of various responses and yes, definitions do vary. As A Spiritual Humanist, I define "spiritual" as any of those ***emotions***; love, hate, fear; ***conditions***; peace, oneness, depression; ***or capacities***; creativity, empathy and yes, psi and other unexplained phenomenon which exist outside the "scientific box" ...either they defy explanation or cannot be adequately explained in empirical terms. I find nothing more idiotic than an "amatuer scientist" atheist "explaining" love (for instance) as a series of chemical reactions. While there is truth to this the very attempt at explaining belittles the actual emotion or condition. Being "religious" is not a prerequisite to being "spiritual". Additionally, you seem to be confused about the meaning of agnostic: *a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God.* -Google Dictionary An agnostic doesn't believe in gods, goddesses or any combination thereof but, unlike an atheist, we do accept the possibilities. I hope you find this helpful. As you see, we are not all atheists here, with which you seem to have confused the term "agnostic".

DangerDave comments on Feb 11, 2018:
I can't speak as film tog because I didn't start (paid) professional photography until after I became a web designer. I cried all the way to the bank over the derision of film togs because, even though the resolution sucked, the Casio CV-10 allowed me to publish direct to net (then an unregulated and nontaxable net) instead of my work have to wait for development and scanning. The photos sucked when enlarged at all but then so did the 15' "big screens" of the time. However that was then (c. 1995) and this is now. I'm sure there is a "scientific standard" of comparison but it seems digital surpassed film resolution somewhere about 12MP. I appreciate tradition but I have never been one to bother with the "process" of film photography and enjoy the ease of digital editing. I have always been a musical and literary artist over a tog though. You can see some samples in my profile pix.

There is the same dynamic here as on Fakebook: regardless of the content of the post there is a "pecking order" in which older males are among the lowest in post response rates. This is my first "dating" site but I can see the same social stratification a high probability on them as well: women are overwhelmed with responses from men and, as such, can be very selective in their responses to them.

What, exactly, does it mean to be "spiritual"?
DangerDave comments on Feb 10, 2018:
*"There are claims in the parapsychology field which, in my opinion, deserve serious study...”* Carl Sagan, atheist Why? Because there is likewise evidence of ghosts, demons, spirits, reincarnation...all said, still very natural phenomenon even if we don't understand them as of yet. Creativity, inspiration, peace, serenity, love...I love to see people on this site try to explain these in empirical terms when they've never experienced them, never have fully or never given themselves wholly to them. I could go on...this is just scratching the surface...but if you don't "get" this much it's highly unlikely any elaboration would be helpful.

Yes, "Fakebook-ish" but I'm sure that'd be a welcome addition for social as well as artistic contributions. You're awesome, by the way!

DangerDave comments on Feb 10, 2018:
I can't speak for atheists. I am incapable of being that closed minded, pretend to know everything or completely disregard evidence that doesn't fit my world view. If I understand your usage I am a "natural agnostic" however, and an apathetic agnostic at that. *Apathetic agnosticism: A view related to apatheism, apathetic agnosticism claims that no amount of debate can prove or disprove the existence of one or more deities, and if one or more deities exist, they do not appear to be concerned about the fate of humans.* - Apatheism - Wikipedia You can read books to "get you" virtually anywhere...just remember even before the internet everything you read in a book is true. Since I posted that statement on the internet, it too must be true. Let that sink in just a minute.
