DangerDave comments on Feb 25, 2018:
Lol...so you have no favorites?!? Let's party then!!! My social etiquette rules vary greatly by situation and I often purposely test the limits. Even so, I have a few boundaries...like, for instance, even at a nudist resort or won't be going about shaking my stuff at people. I'm just a conformist, I guess.

What is unconditional love, and if so, what do people mean when they speak of it?
DangerDave comments on Feb 25, 2018:
I love Wikipedia and they've really outdone themselves in this entry. The link is a great short read into the psychological, humanistic and religious conceptualizations of unconditional love. I've experienced it as a teacher, counselor and family member. I strive for it for all humanity but it's not always easy, seeing the proclivity of so many for greed, hate and destruction. Separating a person from their behavior is not always easy. Since most of my family are fundamentalist theists in a culture of hate for others, I've distanced myself from them but that doesn't mean I don't still love them. In this case and as with other past relationships, I feel such separation is an expression of unconditional love in that it is in no way an expression of love to enable such behaviors or any unconditional love of myself for exposing myself to them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconditional_love

DangerDave comments on Feb 25, 2018:
I appreciate you've taken on the awesome responsibility of the propagation of the species. I'm sure that is one of many factors in your choice to become a parent and highly likely a minor one in your list of priorities. I chose not to long ago and I'm happy I overcome the theist fantasy it's just something you're supposed to do. Likewise, I'm glad to be a male and, as such, somehow immune to the societal stigma a childless woman faces...for too many I'm a happy bachelor (which I am) and not a "spinster". That beings said, I am not a woman and, moreso, I am not anyone else. I have no right to demand what shoes you'll wear on any given day. As such, I have no right to any opinion that will have such a profound effect on the rest of your life. As a teacher and counselor I have seen the terrible consequences of unwanted children, many who live tortured lives because too many thought having them, or demanding others do so, was merely "the 'right' thing to do".

How should Jediism be considered in terms of religion/spirituality?
DangerDave comments on Feb 25, 2018:
I'm glad you're here! I'm an "old school" jedi in that I see the possibilities, and usefulness, of the "force" as universal energy and other aspects of far eastern philosophies. Sadly. it's become very sectarian. Which is yours? I took my ordination back when you had the option along with that of the church of spiritual humanism. I'm not sure when it split from them and when it split further...I have no inclination to chase down with which my ordination may exist. I posted a collection of largely comical "hymns of jediism" some time ago. If you can see the humor you're my kind of jedi! https://agnostic.com/discussion/12084/hymns-of-jediism

DangerDave comments on Feb 24, 2018:
Do what you have to do, then what you need to do. My childhood was in constant turmoil because my mother had a "revolving door" policy with my abusive, alcoholic father. She'd get pregnant, the abuse began (directed at her and us), he'd leave, she'd be sad, angry and saddled with supporting us, he'd beg to come back...rinse and repeat for me and my three siblings. Still, knowing your situation you may HAVE to take him up on it. Just strive for independence and don't be blind to the strong possibility you're walking into the same vicious cycle.

DangerDave comments on Feb 24, 2018:
I had a six week love affair with meth at 15. It was a "perfect fit", playing in a metal band...for like the first month. By then, I wasn't eating or sleeping and my performance was deteriorating...and not just as a player! (Dunno...depends on your definitions...anyway...) So about week six I knew I had a problem and drank myself off it. I'd drink until I passed out, wake up shaking and sweating bullets, shower, try to force feed and repeat the process for several days...it could have been a week because the entire time was a blur between blackouts. I haven't touched it since and I've never been one for pharmaceuticals. Strange that I'd trust what a stoner was making is his bathtub over the then readily available pills but I did, to my benefit. I had enough monkeys on my back as it was anyway.

DangerDave comments on Feb 24, 2018:
Welcome, Z! Congrats on the clean time! My main reason for gradually missing meetings was the "same old, same old" war stories. I began at about 10 years clean for me. By then I was feeling AA was becoming an addiction...that I'd heard it all and said it all at all the groups in my vicinity. Still, I go back from time to time. I've yet to visit one in Vegas but I will at some time to pick up that 17th year chip. (Not 18 as I'd previously stated...my math was bad...at least I remember the date, 3/12/01). I'd heard a few speakers say there was life after AA but they were quick to add they still attended regularly..."regularly" being a relative term. I've brought that up but I'll try to avoid the part where I rarely attend now. There is no need to encourage the newbs to stop attending...regularly...anyway... Glad to have you! The group is just getting started and, while I have no intention of this becoming an "online meeting", I hope to see you around...regularly. heh. Most of all I wish you continued health, happiness and sobriety. Remember whatever challenges you face COULD be worse! ;)

DangerDave comments on Feb 23, 2018:
Many believe the destructive and hateful nature of xianity is something new. For it's leaders at least, it's always been about greed, control and destroying any threats that would stand in their way. In that way it's proven to be more effective than LaVey satanism could ever hope to be. I tend to avoid members of either, or any such people who have no concern for their fellow man. Buddhism in its purest form, that is its philosophy, has some positive elements. I'd say it has far more than any abrahamic faith. As a religion, its is as steeped in mythology as an religion however. There are many humanist schools which are also philosophies for which faith is not an issue. I myself am a spiritual humanist in that I think there is much more to spiritual realms than modern science can explain...from creativity and intuition to ghosts and ESP. I don't agree with all its tenets but, like buddhism, I am under no obligation to do so. If the idea interests you google "humanism". You'll be surprised the number of organizations there are for the several variations of humanistic philosophies.
Do you ever experience FOMO?
DangerDave comments on Feb 23, 2018:
Man, do I ever! I moved to Las Vegas a year ago and I was immediately invited to the opening of an amazing new antique shop in which the mayor gave a speech. I had savings to fund a modest lifestyle while visiting a lot of places, networking and just be a man around this wonderful town. I only scratched the surface to find out just how competitive a town this is and how insanely money is worshipped. I've had more out of town, even international, models who showed an interest in working with me for a percentage of the work itself...even local newbs want me to pay THEM for rehearsals and training in modeling and musical theater, for which I should be charging them! But then this is a town full of very experienced arts and entertainment teachers, managers...and, of course shysters...I have no hope (YET!!!) of competing with. Besides continuing to help some beginning models get started (pro bono...and that has often been very profitable), I'll continue to hope one of them believes in my act enough to invest the time in training for and preparing it till it becomes profitable. So, I'm again looking for a regular dead end job, here in a hovel just a few miles from the Strip. Oh well...thanks for letting me share!

DangerDave comments on Feb 23, 2018:
Absolutely. We seemed to be moving more toward a "species recovery" in the US from the 60's until the Reagan presidency and the resultant empowerment of xians, or at least as they perceived it. We MAY be moving back to a more humanistic universal viewpoint with the complete failure of the current administration's "personality pundit" and a new generations utter repulsion towards him and all he stands for.

Are you racist?
DangerDave comments on Feb 22, 2018:
I answered no but I'm not sure if you'd consider me so being one considering not only the general differences of races but those imposed by generations of differing social customs and mores. Of course, individuals vary greatly, such as this agnostic who'd be conveniently described as a WASP, at least one who'd be considered one in some stereotypes. I'm not saying one is "better" than another. Still, stereotypes fit. My family of largely Irish descent has a long history stereotypical male laborers, warriors and alcoholics with the stereotypical neurotic, overbearing and demanding women who love...and enable...us. I truly believe this upbringing is why I'm also an *apathetic* agnostic.

I'm not sure what you mean by "out there" but as an agnostic I feel is absurd to discount any possibilities because the evidence is not in. Don't get me started on that! I also find it absurd so many want to argue the unknowable while theists destroy the world through their wars, climate change denial, support of the current US administration's social injustice and propagation of "alternative facts",...in my opinion, we have far bigger fish to fry than ceaselessly debate whether pantheism is a possible "god theory".

Welcome, fellow agnostic! I as well have witnessed the unexplainable, in particular ghosts and UFOs. I likewise have had some interesting experiences through meditation and times of spontaneous events such as creativity, empathy and many others which could not be explained with our current understanding of such. I don't consider abrahamic deities as anything but the most remote possibilities, except as perhaps the sum total of the behaviors of their believers. Instead of asking for messages I'd suggest you make more posts concerning your interests but moreso read and comment on those which interest you. Have fun!

What is your biggest fear?
DangerDave comments on Feb 20, 2018:
My biggest fear is of people I don't know asking what my biggest fear is so they can use my biggest fear against me. Just kidding. That's a hard one because I've grown up being able to rationalize fear, largely through the help of my maternal grand/father figure who remembered and taught me the Cherokee "old ways". FDR summed it up well... *The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.* Any fear of a prolonged, painful death are gone now. Through several massive injuries and diseases, been there done that. During those times I often welcomed death as I remembered the good times...not as the "flash" some describe so perhaps I was never that close...though I was close enough to accept it. *“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”* ? Frank Herbert, Dune

DangerDave comments on Feb 19, 2018:
CREATIVES, OH YE ARTISTS & ARTSY, CARRY ON!!! I have absolutely no doubt this post will be removed possibly along with the group and, if I am not "censored" with it, I've frankly about had it with this site. Any members reading this *may* be allowed to take over this group. There is no reason you couldn't start a similar one with or without me. Hopefully with an easier to read title.
Any other writers in the group?
DangerDave comments on Feb 19, 2018:
Welcome! I am! My works are primarily fantasy but I've written articles on just about every subject, as a "professional writer" most successfully as a promotional article biographer for models (usually as their webmaster/content provider) and as a "mythical" songwriter for my act *Tales from the Last Inn*. I had pieces of the first five chapters of my novelized D&D campaign...lost on floppy discs decades ago. I plan to get back to them but I'm still involved with the act and resultant *Tales' 'Toons* from the modeling work I do, often for my act leads. *Dance for You?* currently in the photos (that is, until they too are censored!) is a truncated example of these "graphic novellas". I'll experiment here as well by adding my *Little Book of Sara*, which covers the first trilogy of my yet to be rewritten fantasy epic. Now, let's see if they appear in the photos from a comment... Nope...I've apparently been disallowed from posting photos... *sigh* ...see my most recent post...
Your feelings about ADULT CONTENT on this site?
DangerDave comments on Feb 19, 2018:
So this post has become a moot point. From a message between me and Admin after discovering many posts removed, including those in a group clearly marked *WARNING: MATURE ARTISTIC CONTENT* ***Me: ...Random censorship is the "policy" as I see it so far.*** *** @Admin : Yes, until you can come up with a reason why having adult content on this site improves our ability to promote atheism.*** Not a single one of these posts contained anything that could be remotely considered "adult content" in that none contained nudity and any might be seen in any women's magazine, any ad for a cologne or cosmetics, in any PG rated movie. My days, even hours, may be limited here for exposing this OR for saying this: As an agnostic I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO DESIRE TO PROMOTE ATHEISM!!! I find it as dogmatic in theism in that SCIENCE!!! is treated as an end all, be all of all knowledge; SCIENCE!!! is considered infallible and, as a result, SCIENCE!!! is treated as a dogma that must be preached and proselytized. So apparently any post you make can be censored if it doesn't promote atheism and it is the least bit controversial though the owners chose the deceptive title agnostics.com I am completely disillusioned with this site. I plan to stay to meet like minded people and assist unbelievers transition into whatever they wish to consider as real possibilities...while warning them against what I've come to call "fundamentalist atheism" as described above. I also plan to meet like minded people interested in my art, those interested in assisting with its realization, and those I may develop special relationships with as a result. IF you are a fundamentalist atheist, retain the prudishness of your theist background OR are prude simply by nature, PLEASE just block me now. I don't want to know you and I definitely do not want to waste a single breath or keystroke "debating" you about what you could not possibly know.

Being healthy and happy, foremost. Financial security is a plus but I've seen a LOT of miserable wealthy people! Idyllic for me was traveling throughout the southeast for eight years plying my artistic, mostly performance, skills. It was feast and famine but those were the best years of my life! I moved to Las Vegas just over a year ago to continue my artistic aspirations. It's a tough town but I won't give up!

DangerDave comments on Feb 18, 2018:
Wow...could I go on...I consider my "creations" to "exist" to a degree...possibly in some distant reality with too many definitions of reality... And are they even my own? I entertain several possibilities of a cosmic consciousness which far transcends the physical worlds' realities to which only we creatives are attuned. In the end I have no idea why I'm so compelled to say, sing and show stuff to entertain others. I just know I like it. ;)
Science fiction or science fantasy?
DangerDave comments on Feb 17, 2018:
Swords and sorcery fantasy, sometimes referred to as high fantasy. Stands to reason, since I write my best material high. So Tolkien, of course. The series that caught my attention was the pulp Dragonlance series based on D&D, which had over 150 books at last count. The original trilogy was by far the best.
I recently downloaded two books for men, on relating to women and how to have a great relationship....
DangerDave comments on Feb 17, 2018:
Most women I'd say offhand and in a nutshell are looking for emotional and financial security: a man who will be there for them and provide for them, or at least share in that responsibility in this brave new world of relationships. Luckily for me I'm an artist and I find my best matches are fellow artists who share that primary drive, above and beyond any desires for committed relationships.
Waste of Time Hall of Fame. What stupid thing have you wasted too much time on?
DangerDave comments on Feb 17, 2018:
I'd like to say video games but I play some cerebral video games. Fantasy, sci-fi, horror RPGs...I've come to enjoy interactive fiction more than reading...but then I'm one of those people who turned D&D into several literary and performance projects, some of which have been very profitable. Besides, sometimes I just need some mental maturbation... So I'll have to "steal" yours...though I'll call it arguing over debating. I can walk away from a debate with a greater understanding, if of nothing else the person I debated with. Arguing religion however was a, if not the, major factor I was ostracised by most of my family at an early age. I won't take all the blame for that. When some of your earliest recollections are of being told "only bad people don't believe" (as if my family were saints!) and the ever popular "you'll go to hell" I could only contain myself so many years. When I finally started defending my position it wasn't pretty. I have absolutely no use for such "debates" but when I do I find myself in one I'm about an inch away from that belligerent five year old, especially when presented with dubious "facts" of faith including the common "it hasn't been empirically proven so it can't possibly be true" mentality you often see on this site. Not to say I don't enjoy it at times but it's about as useful as debating hemorrhoids, or even debating with one.
We, here, like to debunk platitudes and ideologues that are out to hijack minds. What about the ...

This is one of my many reasons for a continued mistrust of science. No, it was never part of growing up southern baptist...it was pouring over so much conflicting "research" each presented as factual. In that way (as many), science mirrors religion. You bring up a very valid concern of "bad science"...in so many ways it is used to put profits before people. In the same vein, I was disgusted but not surprised the NRA, in response to the Parkland shooting, issued a statement that there is no valid research that proves easy access to assault weapons is related to mass murders in which assault weapons are used. Really?!? And people ask why I'm agnostic.
1 Corinthians 16:22 - "If anyone does not love the Lord—a curse be on him." wtf.
DangerDave comments on Feb 17, 2018:
WTF, really! I "cap" it because I consider the people who are discriminated against and even murdered daily because of this mentality.
Is the idea of calling someone atheist strange?
DangerDave comments on Feb 16, 2018:
Being agnostic (as an adjective and a noun) not at all. I find the definition (and distinction) quite useful, especially in forming relationships with them. We'll generally have as much to "agree to disagree" on as would a theist and me.
What do you know well enough to teach others?
DangerDave comments on Feb 16, 2018:
BA Orchestral Music Education so, in many private institutions, that qualified me to teach any subject I've studied, even one course. I was tasked (not asked) with teaching Spanish in one private school though I hadn't studied it myself since high school. With six years and three major changes I was informed too late I had minors in Dance, Drama and Behavioral Science. My interest in a Chemistry major died the first year, which at least way overshot my science and math prerequisites for a liberal arts degree. The added Education major tacked on even another year. With a three year "performance break" that was nine years spent as an undergrad. That was "career student" enough for me, as was five years of formal teaching enough of institutional education as well. Having worked in counseling, management, public relations, human resources, supervision, web design, graphic arts...there are several other subjects I've taught but I only considered being a scientist till my freshman year. I'm an artist at heart and these days I teach performance skills exclusively to my act leads.

What a can of worms! I know fundies believe jehebus talks to them and they think everyone who doesn't just "ain't right with gawd". We have Pence, our lusterless VP, and a ton of congressmen who believe that crap. To them you're only crazy if you're hearing voices other than jehebus...or you're possessed by demons.
Is there a non-cringy way of telling someone you think they look nice on a given day?
DangerDave comments on Feb 16, 2018:
"Nice" is a word I hardly use...I'd think if you sincerely told someone they looked nice you'd stand a better chance of seeming boring than creepy. "Awesome, fantastic...lovely, beautiful"...if you know them well enough (and not just in the buybullical sense) "hot, sexy"...it's all about sincerity in my experience. Responses will vary but delivery is the key...there are cringy ways to say "hello" if you think about it.

You've basically answered your own question. Below is the link to the Skeptics Annotated Bible's *Cruelty and Violence* section for self study and ready reference. I will also tell an abrahamic; be they xian, jew or muslim; I believe in their god...as the sum total of the actions of all their believers who want to kill each other for their differences of how the same god should be worshipped... ***JUST REMEMBER...FACTS DON'T MATTER*** when you're arguing with the indoctrinated. "Their" version of god is wonderful, beautiful and all powerful no matter who he's telling them to hate. They will only ever change their belief if they themselves can see it is false. You may leave them with that seed of doubt...the most important thing to do in my opinion is leave them as soon as you see you're involved in a circular argument...unless you just enjoy wasting time. http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/cruelty/long.html

It's been far too long to remember any titles, most were very generic, but when I was immersed in the studies of philosophies and religions (c.70-80) there were a tremendous amount of xian propaganda books masquerading as such in our local library. Usually in the first chapter you would be introduced to "this belief is disproven by the buybull..." and a further scan showed these books just another vehicle for xian indoctrination. No, thank you. "Care of the Soul" by Thomas Moore is one of my all time favorite books but any mention of xianity is made from a philosophical standpoint with those of many other mythologies given equal standing.
