Today I heard a new Rule. We all know The Golden Rule, right? "Do unto others as you would have ...
DangerDave comments on Jan 29, 2018:
I first heard this here and just now heard it referred to as the Platinum Rule. Even though I've never verbalized it, I've applied it even before I was "taught" it as a teacher, counselor and even performer. I have to agree with @marmot84 , @Esrasdoaz , et al, though...you still can't apply it to all situations.
Anyone practice tantra?
DangerDave comments on Jan 29, 2018:
Not in any ritualistic way but I meditate, which could be considered tantric. Could you elaborate though? "Practicing tantra" can mean a number of things. I only "practice" my arts on a regular basis and that I don't do often enough!
Nutrition. Do you trust the experts? What do you believe to be true about health & nutrition?
DangerDave comments on Jan 28, 2018:
I don't think about it. Within cost restraints I eat what I want, which is generally a well balanced diet though with more meats than most...so yeah, I'm on an Atkins diet. The one concession I've made over the years is to cut back on very rare steak, though I do treat myself from time to time.

Bad, bad, bad advice. What is the WORST advice someone ever gave you out of love?
DangerDave comments on Jan 28, 2018:
"Pray about it." Too many situations with too many possible solutions, none of which would be solved by me either on my knees or sitting on my ass...though sitting on my ass pondering possible solutions has been helpful from time to time.

How many want to bet the Evangelicals blame the flu on gay people and liberals?
DangerDave comments on Jan 28, 2018:
Hi "homegirl"! Gaffney born, Greenville raised here...I don't see how you can stand it there! hehe...What bad things do evangelicals NOT blame on gay people and liberals? You could hit six churches which "expound" on such nonsense ever Sunday morning with a rock from almost any given point in downtown Aiken. Not that I'm suggesting throwing rocks at their churches...I could see many of the locals suddenly decide its time to bring back witch burning!

Dudeist priest of two other "churches" which just call themselves churches to allow for ordinations. As an apathetic agnostic being a "dude" comes naturally. How much do brand names matter?
DangerDave comments on Jan 26, 2018:
Guitars, (other instruments,) cars, (and other big ticket items) usually its a big thing. Still, I'll take a chance sometime. My "B" brand bigscreen had just the features I'd have paid much more for in a Sony but, after two years' faithful service under fire and over bumpy roads, I'm still well pleased. Food. clothes, toiletries...not so much. I have stepped up from Banquet to Marie Colander's (heh) bachelor food and usually go for an appropriate variety of shredded cheese over sliced. Dawn is tough on grease, gentle on the wallet; I've been nursing gift bottles of colognes for decades; if its not "costume" its likely bargain bin... So a lot, and not at all. Even with guitars, where I'm most picky, can you guess which is the "real deal" and which I consider to be an acceptable knock-off?

Who is to blame for the government shutdown?
DangerDave comments on Jan 26, 2018:
Ultimately it is all of us for allowing this to happen...and get worse. Trump, McConnell, their supportive GOP, the actual "fake news", Fox...and the masses who support them are complicit. These are the far right conservative core who are supported by the very rich and very poor. A primary difference between them and everyone else is they vote.

DangerDave comments on Jan 25, 2018:
My first degree and three jobs as a music director. I was a heavy drinker then so it didn't much matter ethically. I'd send church members to their respective clergy for religious matters and openly discuss other topics, usually music but often philosophy, politics,... I "came out" to the third pastor well before he came to me about the job while I was still dating his daughter, my soon to be fiance. I might do it again that way but it'd have to be an artistically and spiritually progressive church such as the unitarians, if not some agnostic ones. No shame. And no more southern baptist churches for me. Though it was fun to watch them head bang waving goat horns (they mean "I love you" too, y'know!) but NOT...NOT dancing!
What if?
DangerDave comments on Jan 25, 2018:
Then whose sect do you choose? The catholics say they are the only ones who "represent" god, as do muslims, a few...thousand breeds of protestants? That's a lot of ways of being wrong! Now ask yourself...would you want the "heaven" of a god who would encourage its believers to kill each other because they're sure their way is best? I'm agnostic and consider many "god theories" but jehovah ranks very low of any possibilities. In addition to the insane effects of these beliefs, they have absolutely no foundation in reality. http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/

How Important is Nudity?
DangerDave comments on Jan 24, 2018:
Hello fellow artist! Important? Not really. Preferred is more accurate, and that is in direct relationship to temperature. I don't care how warm the hot springs are...if there's ice all around my clothes stay on! So even before nudist resorts I was wearing as little as possible in my space, limited by consideration for current company. I mean if you're wearing it needlessly you're getting it dirty and you're going to have to wash it so...
What does evolution mean to you?
DangerDave comments on Jan 23, 2018:
Well, I have to be different so I should at least offer an explanation. I just wanted to say "Hi" Kitt and offer you an invitation if you're ever in Vegas for lunch, some sightseeing and possible some participation in my arts...see my prof pix...OH...and why I answered "Not Enough... ...I'd change this to "incomplete". Evolution is real, no doubt, but the science is still in theory stage. There are still missing pieces and some that just don't fit...VERY minor pet peeve time... I found it VERY difficult to believe scientists had "found" "Eve", or the very first genetic human woman conveniently with extractable DNA, with no idea of that of her mother, grandmother,... Now evolution as proven facts; inherited and mutated traits, natural and artificial selection, survival of the fittest; is just that. Its nonsensical to argue. But, for me, its even more nonsensical and inconsequential to argue who "Evo-Eve" was. We could discuss it over lunch...if you can drag me from explaining the roles I'd want you to portray...to me, that's the important stuff! And, if you read all that, it was a pleasure meeting you! https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/no-mitochondrial-eve-not-first-female-species-180959593/

DangerDave comments on Jan 21, 2018:
I have few cherished opinions. The latest I gave up was the "humans use only 10% of their brains" fallacy I first was taught in 3rd grade and have had it reinforced several times since including most recently the movie *Lucy*. I have to wonder if Morgan Freeman (who played the scientist, sometimes narrator as he does in several factual roles) still believes it. Though I discount man made religions, probably my most cherished opinion is "no one can prove or refute the existence of a god or gods." Since the answer is not forthcoming, I can rest easy with that one. Well, not really. My opinions on how to best integrate my new act lead are currently far more important...and mutable.

DangerDave comments on Jan 21, 2018:
Apology accepted? hehe...no, I don't think you're referring to me. Hope not, anyway! I've experienced much the same, so much when I first came to the site I thought of leaving: being told what words I could use here or ANYWHERE, explained incessantly how I was already an atheist, being recruited to an atheist church bombing squad, how an atheist "lawyer" was preparing a defense...not for the bombers but for atheism as an ideology... I however remain unapologetic. I came here hoping for a united front of unbelievers and I have found it, including you, in those who are far more interested in assisting newcomers in their transition than debating...attacking them for whatever minor differences in beliefs they may have, usually those no one can definitively have the answers. I remain a positive member and a positive person. I avoid negativity and seek unity in our diversity. If I enter a debate it is of special interest to me and I come prepared with supportive facts or at least a well formulated opinion in the absence of the facts, fully understanding any debate is futile with someone presenting opinions as facts. For those, if they are too hostile or persistent, I report. There are a lot of people, some of our most "verbal", who should not be the first the new nonbeliever or fence rider should be exposed to...but usually they are. As I see it we have far more pressing political, social and ethical issues than to debate, and attack, incessantly over questions none of us as "mere mortals" can possibly answer.

DangerDave comments on Jan 20, 2018:
Read and I'll try not to rant...much... Honestly, I like a lot atheists I've meet here but a much greater percentage of atheists who are renowned scientists or otherwise directly involved in research. Why? There seems to be a direct correlation to their education and intelligence levels down to those of the dogmatic "science worshipers" who deify science as irrefutable and immutable truth; in their levels of hostility, inflexibility and intolerance. A truck driver who knows everything about everything? Please. Anyway, good rant...much better stated than the many I've posted on the subject. Carry on.

Loved this Video figured I'd post. [youtu.be] Do you believe in Fate/Karma?
DangerDave comments on Jan 20, 2018:
Cute video! In my opinion, if it happened out of all potentialities it was "fate", such as the video illustrates in very natural circumstances. "Karma" is a result of your active intervention of "fate", for instance the girl grabbing the guy's hand as they were falling. Karma is clearly evident, and instant, in many social interactions: if you approach others in a kind, considerate manner you can usually expect the same in return.

DangerDave comments on Jan 17, 2018:
This reminds me I need to get another copy of Gygax's *Deities and Demigods*...anyway... No, all religions and the religious who believe them are not equal. Abrahamic sects tend to be far more dangerous than other modern religions. The devastation of our "holey" wars, starting with "our" invasions in the Middle East and now with the muslim refugee assimilation of Europe...few other religious can boast such devastation. I just escaped the theist dirty south a year ago, never to return. Radical theists, blindly devoted to greedy political and theological leaders, bent on destroying the planet while casting more into poverty and ignorance...yes, there are vast differences in the religious, even within their individual cults.

@evestrat did I hear my name? Well, I have very little to mansplain unless we're talking about the arts, and specifically mine. I have a limited though well rounded education and I have become something of a "google-matic guru"...but I'd rather state an opinion than argue a fact in that many "facts" in the realms of agnositics(.com) can be nothing more than opinions. I've been man..."over explained" on too many such "facts" too. Its a deeper sociological "issue" on this site in that we represent a wide cross section of the population. There seems to be, as in the "real world", a direct correlation between level of education and acceptance of new ideas...bereft of a "let me tell you how it REALLY is" mentality. I've had fun with it and discovered early on anyone in the related fields of sociology could write a thesis here. Even without such advanced education or aspirations I have come to one conclusion: *When you know everything you no longer need to learn...but you do want to share everything you know.* I see absolutely no need to further explain that position.

Apparently we are.
Is there a church for anthiest groups I need to know please
DangerDave comments on Jan 14, 2018:
Are you looking for serious "churches"? Universal Life Church and the Church of Spiritual Humanism come immediately to mine but there are several usually online only organizations that call themselves "churches", largely I think for US tax exempt status. I like the comical ones too, which often offer ordination. The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster seems to be the most popular though I identify more as a jedi and dude...of dudeism. http://dudeism.com/
What things in life are rights and which are privileges to be earned?
DangerDave comments on Jan 14, 2018:
They are all important but I consider education to be most important, in that an educated person stands a much better chance of providing for their own welfare... ...with the exception of national defense...but we're already world police, sooo... https://youtu.be/TmoeZHnOJKA
Am I the only who is proud of my early ancestors from millions of years ago?
DangerDave comments on Jan 14, 2018:
You put this very well and I am in total agreement. Remember, you may get the same goosebumps when you make a sudden, even startling, discovery...I know I do.
What's the best religion-related joke you can think of?
DangerDave comments on Jan 14, 2018:
Too many...and too many come from the buybull itself! The first to come to mind... "This sickness will not end in death." - Jesus, John 11:4 "oops" - Jesus, arriving at Lazarus' place several days after he died.
Hey, I am new to the community. I was just curious if anyone had a persuasive argument against ...
DangerDave comments on Jan 14, 2018:
*pops some popcorn* I'm sure the "no evidence" folks will be arriving soon. And I agree, there is no substantial evidence. I'm just waiting for substantial evidence pantheism is not possible, along with a few...thousand other "god" theories. Am I concerned with it? Not in the least, other than I just like to play in possibilities.
Am I in violation of Missouri law?
DangerDave comments on Jan 14, 2018:
I'd refer to a lawyer on that one...a nontheist one if such an animal exists in MO. I've dodged the "legality bullet" in that all the actual weddings I've overseen as a priest of spiritual humanism (my "primary" ordination, though I'd love to do a jedi or dudeist wedding!) in that the actual "on paper" marriage occurred at a justice of the peace or, in some states, even a notary. Of course that's not always possible in states such as yours. I wish I could offer better advice but if I were you, yeah...at least make a few calls and get a few free consultations.

If this was your one day to live, how would you spend it ?
DangerDave comments on Jan 14, 2018:
Wow. I'm in Vegas with money in the bank (mostly for upcoming bills), including credit cards with some serious headroom (and upcoming bills). So...I'd die somewhere on the Strip if I didn't find a model for an Opus Finale, then I'd frantically be trying to edit the art in time... If only I could be sure...

Down indeed! I'm a gamer and something of a stoner, though these days I'm not as chronic as I was in days past. Partying is still awesome but today I smoke more for inspiration, meditation and medication. Close enough? Besides online friendship, I'd love to meet you and yours if you're ever Vegas way!
Iraq is a bad place ..
DangerDave comments on Jan 14, 2018:
My question is it a better place since the 17 year US occupation? It apparently won't end this year. (link) I know life was brutal under a dictator but, after 9/11/01, OOPS, we attacked the wrong country and never found a single WMD. I speak for many Americans who are proud to have toppled the regime but are deeply troubled by all that's transpired there since. https://www.iraqinews.com/iraq-war/newspaper-iraqi-commander-confirms-u-s-forces-staying-iraq-2018/

Do you feel that your society has a bias towards extroverts?
DangerDave comments on Jan 13, 2018:
No jab taken...or at least not blocked! I see it and understand it. We "exes" can be trying at times. Like trying to get our acts together for our favorite stages, or improving our act. After the flurry of salutations and questions, its usually just us exes hanging around... ...and we're all like... https://youtu.be/EYiZeszLosE
Inter-religious couples?
DangerDave comments on Jan 13, 2018:
From your perspective I'd definitely "out" for anyone you'd consider getting serious with. Even if it works now but won't later, then a lot of other stuff probably wouldn't be working either. Either way, time to hit the highway!
What do you have to do to be you?
DangerDave comments on Jan 13, 2018:
Musical theater, graphic and literary arts...but if she's not somehow involved in any of the three there is nearly no possibility we'd be "involved" in any way. I am, after all, an artist of genres in which my "partners" play an integral part. That and my usual slobbishness, procrastination and disinterest in mainstream...anything. Sure, I'll pick up my dirty drawers if she asks or entertain a Kim and/or Kanye conversation...briefly. Given too many such demands I'll be looking for the stage left exit, though. I am, after all, a dude...of dudeism.
Suck crawfish?
DangerDave comments on Jan 13, 2018:
Love to! My first experience with mudbugs was at my first crayfish boil in Louisiana while on tour. I'd seen them a million times but I never considered eating them. I watched the locals drag the heads through cocktail sauce and suck away. When in Rome...and I loved the heads from first suck!
Is evolution a fact or still just a theory. I'm an agnostic, and therefore, by nature a doubter. A...
DangerDave comments on Jan 12, 2018:
Evolution is a theory in the same category as gravity: as we continue to test and debate what is considered established facts more "sub-theories" are created. Just as we know galactic mass in a celestial dance keeps our feet on the ground, we can trace a fairly clear path back to our single celled ancestors.
Where do you draw the line between run-of-the-mill Bible Thumpers and Cults? How do you react? ...
DangerDave comments on Jan 12, 2018:
They all are cultists of the various sects of abrahamic mythologies. Be they jew, xian or muslim they engage in ritual behavior; seek to convert, avoid or destroy unbelievers; have priestly "mediators" who condition their thoughts and control their behaviors;... Still, so long as we don't discuss religion and I don't detect an immediate threat, I'm fine with anyone, though I'm wary of strangers. After all, nearly 80% of everyone in the US believes one way or another in the "big sky guy".
The use of marijuana
DangerDave comments on Jan 12, 2018:
I'd say we both could do without the cigs. Its a costly, nasty habit with no real benefits and too many detriments. For me its an addiction, one of a few I have again not found a willingness to give up. At least its not heroin! Still, if it helps you or not, if it feels good and its within your rights, do it! Forget the naysayers...they can't truly know you, definitely can't be you and, as such, their opinions are of little if any importance. I had no idea of your ailments...it's sad to hear all you've had to endure. Your prescription is likely for indicas which I often smoke for general aches and pains, physical and psychological. I prefer hybrids when not smoking sativa for the purely creative, open minded feelings they produce. If anyone has a problem with that, it's *their* problem!
Recovering religious
DangerDave comments on Jan 11, 2018:
Was I three when I told my mother cartoons are better than buybull stories? Anyway, it was about then from my earliest memory. My fundamentalist southern baptist family knew they had a "strange" kid from the start. i wasn't "out" in public so much until 14 when the hair grew, the music grew louder and the strangest antitheist anthems and theist comedy boomed down our once quiet street. I know many who've needed to stay "in" for a thousand reasons. I'm grateful I never had to be one.
What does “Spiritual Atheist” mean? Isn’t it a contradiction?
DangerDave comments on Jan 11, 2018:
I was intrigued so I had to do some research. The best and most concise definition I found was on their website, *The Center for Spiritual Atheism*. *Generally, Spiritual Atheists are people who do not believe in a literal "God" (thus the term "Atheist" ), but still consider themselves to be (often deeply) "Spiritual" people.* - site http://www.centerforabetterworld.com/SpiritualAtheism/about-spiritual-atheism.htm
Are you teaching your children that Santa Claus/Easter Bunny/Tooth Fairy are real?
DangerDave comments on Jan 11, 2018:
I'll side with the dads. Though I have no kids I've had nieces and nephews and classes of them. Let their fantasies run wild...reality will slap them in their little faces soon enough. I've taken on the guises of so many creatures and personas I really can't remember them all. From hanging napkins over my ears to be a bunny at a "who's Alice?" tea party to fully costumed acts to stir the imagination in us all... At some time each truth is found and the myth becomes entertainment...for some of us, anyway!
Get your flu shot?

Say an object a talisman of sorts like pandora's box existed with plague sorrow regret fear ...
DangerDave comments on Jan 11, 2018:
The most common end to the Pandora's box myth has "hope" as the last item remaining. (link) Its primary moral is clear, as Pandora holds hope to her heart. The finer points include when hope, in and of itself, is not a confident "blessing" but instead a self defeating curse. Ancient mythologies of all types have these philosophical fables. Greek (Pandora's origin) and Roman mythologies are particularly good starts if it subject interests you. (You may have to copy and paste the link.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandora%27s_box
Gosh is it ok to talk to folks with no heavy money on this account ?
DangerDave comments on Jan 11, 2018:
You can talk to me. I carry bills as much as possible. But, if you feel I should go get a few rolls of quarters... How much money we make rarely comes up. Rich, poor or anywhere betwixt all have a voice here.
Pffftttt.... there aren't enough sarcastic people here.
