From my personal experience, this is depression. Not just feeling bad for a time over specific issues.
When I would have to go for therapy, I most always ask if we could see if I could work my condition out without meds first. I was always accommodated. But, remember that you can take the meds until you are in a balanced place. And, if monitored, you can wean yourself off.
Please see what can be done about this depression before you give up on life! You deserve that!
As for friends, I have very few that are in close proximity to me. But, knowing that there are people that I care about and care about me, gives me a sense of belonging. I don’t even check in with them regularly. I don’t think we need a lot of friends, just a few. Besides, as we get older, some are dying before us. I have made it a point to frequent places, (stores, thrift store, fast food places), and be friendly we who ever is there! I am connecting to other humans.
About your going places...please take some short day trips and get accustomed to going places alone. You can enjoy your own company (after that depression is corrected). Maybe, after that you can try some overnight trips to places that just interest you! You would be surprised at how quickly you would get the hang of it.
I don’t know what your health issues are, but you can prepare yourself as best you can and go places anyway. I lot of this is going to depend on your fear factor. Don’t be afraid to live, because you are afraid you might die. I have just driven from New Mexico to Ga, and more than 40% of that trip was in some of the most horrible rain! I slept in my truck, for few hours at a time in the ‘rest area’ and I never got a ‘room!’ My physical problems are as follows; ruptured disc in my neck and shoulder rotor cuffs are out, my right hip is going out, so that can be very uncomfortable! But, I get behind the wheel, I become totally focused. I must work around my physical condition but, I want let that stop me. If I die out here, so be it, but that is not in my plans. I have life and I have things that need to be taken care of. And, it makes me happy to know that I am in charge of my life and I will stay in the game, right up until the end!
Find a few things that make you happy and do them...live YOUR life! You deserve that! Claim it! Good luck! And keep posting, we care!

I do care and I have been mighty low in the past, so I do have a good idea how depression seems to ‘suck the life,’ right out of us...at the same time...we want to annihilate ourself. But, once I worked myself out from the ‘bottom,’ (where I was in hell), the depression has been much more manageable. I learned how to take steps early on, when I feel my mood dropping for hardly any reason. If you aren’t already doing this...when you feel you are being pulled into an abyss, write down everything that comes to mind! Keep doing this until you have no more words to write down. This helped me tremendously, after I had no therapist to help me.
Just remember if you had diabetes, you would be alert to conditions that put you at risk. It is the same with depression. We must monitor and treat depression just like any other physical malady. After all we are mind, body and spirit!

It is hard to not ‘plug in’ every time there is an update about the virus. But, I also noticed that a lot of the time, they will report the number of deaths from the flu, and here in the US, that number was increasingly large. (Sorry I do not remember the number.) That kinda helped me to keep a check on my imagination. That also tells me that if your immune system is not in good shape, you are susceptible to anything. So, my first thought, especially now is to keep your hands away from your face and wash your hands often. Just as a matter of practice, not because you are fearful, but create a habit, so that you aren’t in a state of worry. This is what I do and I rarely have colds and had the flu once in 15 years. If you are not taking a daily vitamin that has 30/40mg of zinc, I would recommend it. I have taken vitamin supplements for years.
The other thing that I would suggest, is practice being in the moment. Don’t bring in the past and don’t concern yourself with the future. Just make your plans to meet your needs in the future, then live in each moment, ‘taking in’ all that is taking place around you. Get out in nature every day if possible. Observe it, just be with it...this helps with being grounded as nature isn’t struggling, it just is. The more you practice living in the present, the better you get at it! It sure allows us to live more freely. Best of luck.

How true...I remember clearly how shocked we were where I lived back in Ga, 10 yrs ago, when our Republican Governor was elected. My neighbors and friends didn’t even know a person that voted for him! Now, the justice department belongs to Barr and trump and there seems to be no way to wrench it from their evil grip! If this want scare the hell out of people, they are half-dead! It makes me so angry as I have seen with my own eyes for years, how the GOP, has cheated and gamed the system! But, I believe your next step is going to your Doctor and ask for an anti-pressant (my experience has been even now that any Dr will prescribe anti-depressant), they will have you take a test, first. I would recommend Lexapro, as I was told that it was the purest form of Serotonin, which is one of the main brain chemicals, that helps us to feel comfortable. I took many meds over the years, but this one had no side effects for me! But, discuss with your Dr. And are you getting physical therapy for your foot? And if so you will have to keep up the exercises that they suggest. Even if you think you can’t do them perfectly.
One of my revelations as I aged (and I checked this out among my friends), is that every pain or ailment seemed to bring out the feeling of doom! ‘I will be crippled going into old age.’ ‘Who is going to help take care of me, if I am decrypted?’ ‘ Who will even want too?’ ‘How can I do anything for myself?’ And, when I am in a state of depression...this will be my DAILY theme! When I am not in depression, my problems (hip going out now), seem like an inconvenience, rather than impending doom! That is why your depression needs attention first. And that should not cost an arm and leg! Just a Dr visit and Lexapro comes as a generic! If this doesn't work within a few weeks, then another one can be tried.
Along with this, you need to pay attention to your diet, even when you are not particularly hungry. Eat as many fruits and veggies as possible (as many raw, as possible). And try to eat at regular times. Again...even if you are not particularly hungry. Drink plenty of water (very important) along with tea and whatever else you like! From all my observation...no alcohol or other drugs, as they will counteract with meds and not allow you to work out some basic emotional work. If you will allow yourself to feel your ‘real raw brokenness’ then healing can take place! (Don’t worry you can handled it, look at what you have been carrying around for years.) If you just skirt around the edges of these hurtful emotions...they will remain inside you and undermine all of your grieving efforts (you need to grieve all your losses)...and your forward motion.
You are at a crossroads...but first your mental embalance needs attention just like any ‘de-ease’ in your body...this disorder clouds your reality and is not a normal state. When you can get your mental balance back then you can decide if your life is indeed worth snuffing out! And, since there are other people that care about your life, and would be impacted then this decision should be ...
