I used to have a golden and a cat. I'd sometimes take naps during the day with the dog behind me and the cat in front. I'd dream I heard the doorbell (frequent recurring dream.) I'd check the critters. If they were still sleeping I knew it was a dream. Chief, the golden, was convinced that the doorbell meant visitors for him and he did a happy dance as soon as he heard it. No way to sleep through the doorbell if he was in the house or on the bed. 75 pounds of happy dance does that to you. The cat simply hid when she heard the doorbell. Now if I hear creepy sounds at night I have a baseball bat in the closet. Last creepy sound was the robovac going on at night. I needed to do some reprogramming....

When we (2 of my girls and me) took my heart cat to be released from her pain we were there. We held her and talked to her as she took her last breaths. We told her how much we loved her and we'd never forget her. She would be the benchmark of which all future fur babies would be scored. Yes, we loved her that much and I'm crying as I type this. Miss Millie was the most loving, people bonded cat ever. She was and forever will be my heart cat. I love my current cats Zelda and Xena, but if I could have had Miss Millie for 20 more years it would still have been too soon to let her go. Being there for my cats/kids is what you do as a parent and as a good human being.

If you're interested in reading more, there is an awesome book called "We Are Our Brains: A Neurobiography of the Brain, from the Womb to Alzheimer's" by (I kid you not) Dick Swaab. He goes by D.F. Swaab. https://books.google.com/books/about/We_Are_Our_Brains.html?id=0ZGxAAAAQBAJ=frontcover=kp_read_button#v=onepage&q&f=false It is a fascinating book on how our brains change and what can happen to make them change. Part of it talks about how in WWII in Europe, prolonged starvation of mothers made their babies overeat and be greedy unhappy people. It is a really good read, I highly recommend it.

Munchkin will terrorize the cats, and they will keep egging her on. Her daddy will be in a Labor Day parade on Monday. I will spend some time sewing and reading, and cleaning and cooking, and whatever else NEEDS to be done. Cat boxes come to mind.... erk.

Mothers Day 2008 or 2009. I had let my ex know I wanted a flower bed built in the back yard. My ex has a Xian Hymnal website. That year he wrote an Easter hymn. He used music from another hymn and wrote new words. Nothing about mothers or love or children. He dedicated that hymn to me on his website. When I opened the envelope and read the words and the dedication I almost barfed. He should not have quit his day job and I hate poetry anyway. I said "thank you." and changed the subject. In our divorce I specified that my name had to be taken off his website. Gag me, freaking gag me. I filed for divorce a few months later

After moving in they realized they might have mice. Then psycho kitty confirmed it.... by killing said mousies. So psycho kitty has earned her keep, but she still gets shut in a bedroom when visitors come over.
