I read the interview that I believe you are referring to. The evasive Pence interview. I believe it was two days ago but could have been yesterday. I was also taken aback. But i doubt it was to the same degree that it effected you. Familiarity. There is much that people will abide in the pursuit of their goals. 'We are a Godless nation going to Hell in a handbasket.' Those in possession of the TRUTH ignore the collateral damage I am possessed with an intimate understanding of the Fundamentalist mindset. By the time I was 12 I had memorized 1000 Bible verses. That was the same age that i realized the philosophy did not make sense and was determined to 'Get the fuck out of here as soon as i can make my break'. I felt like the single black sheep in a herd of thousands. I understand the people that make up the MAGA group. My family is part of it We may exist under the same sky, but we live in two different worlds.
I saw this on my lunch walk today. Serendipitous timing.
Lincoln55 comments on Jun 26, 2019:
Not so sure its serendipity. I have been at festivals and street parties. I scan the crowd looking for that interesting shot. i can pick out a photographer a mile away. even if I can't see their camera. The eyes are different. They aren't necessarily engaged with those around them. They are in their own world . looking for that one moment where it comes together. I love this shot on several levels Lone biker. Mural behind him. The beard. His age The angle under the bridge or overpass. The rocks. The water. There are so many things going on. A half dozen different stories.

Lincoln55 comments on Jun 26, 2019:
I think of it as emotional thinking vs analytical thinking. How does this issue effect me? My Mother was that way. it did not matter how much logic or reality she was presented, she would go with how she felt emotionally. A true believer could care less about facts. Mike Pence' relationship w/ Donald Trump is much the same as his relationship w/ his God. He isn't interested in facts. We have a community of skeptics here. We ask questions and want answers. It's a 'prove it' community. Most of us have thought that way all of their lives. I came from a family that was totally immersed in the fundamentalist church. They are generally kind, good hearted people. An extended family. In that environment it is difficult to understand what they perceive as an attack against their values. We were taught to question everything, weigh the answers and formulate a reasonable answer. if that didn't pan out, we asked more questions. I have 2 brothers and two sisters that ask no questions and are not the least bit interested in answering mine. And they are content within the bubble they live. Why would they want to risk popping that bubble? Richard, you mentioned how your day is going. You didn't say why it was a bad day. Could be economic, could be health, could be because your baseball team lost. I'm guessing that the duscussion on concentration camps and the reference to Pence is the root of your dismay. but that is a guess. That and the picture of Elie Weisel/ I am also guessing that the reference to AOC is her comments on concentration camps. I don't know you well enough to gauge your understanding of the fundamentalist mindset. Obviously a man of your intellect and scientific training is a skeptic. I don't know how much day to day contact you have w/ emotional thinkers. I deal with that frustration daily
Took this photo of some cherries I was eating last night...the one is almost a perfect heart.
