What do you think the world be like with out religion?
QuidamOutrepont comments on Jul 19, 2019:
If we got rid of religions, human nature being unfortunately what it is, we would find other reasons to go to war and doing other senseless stuff.
Doh! I hate when that happens!

QuidamOutrepont comments on Jul 19, 2019:
I work in the recycling business. I'm a sorter in a recycling plant. I'm one of those folks putting on those gloves, standing next to a conveyor and actually sorting the stuff with both hands. And from a humble sorter's point of view, I think there are so many things going wrong in this business. For starters, we find way too much trash on our conveyors. Either people don't know how to sort their recycling from their trash properly, or they just don't care. Green truck or gray truck, as long as the stuff leaves with a truck, what's the difference?! I also hear on the TV news that too many recyclable stuff ends up on dumping grounds. There are too many packages that are difficult or impossible to recycle. Just think about those Pringle's chips packages, wax cardboard sides and tin bottoms. We don't have time to split them apart. I think it could be possible to improve our recycling rates big time, it would only take more political will from our governments. As for the corporations, those who put the merchandise and the packaging in our markets, it looks to me like another classic case of privatizing the profits and socializing the losses. They just cash in the profits and let the governments, the tax payers and the environment pay for the waste. As for the recycling business itself, I think this is where the noble principles of preserving our environment go on a frontal collision with the harsh reality of cold blooded and globalized capitalism. Why should they sort their material here when the could have it sorted by some overseas cheap labor?! I work in a plant where too much stuff passes on way too fast, sorted by not enough sorters on machines that are not maintained and cleaned up properly. I see poorly sorted, contaminated material being baled up, piled up in containers and sent who knows where. I hear on the news some local buyers saying they would take all of our material if it was properly sorted. And I also hear about some shady brokers buying up our material and shipping it overseas. I think my job is important, but it could be soooo much better.

Money forces than can actually buy entire governments and rewrite laws and international treaties to their own advantage. I think that people like you and me have things more powerful than our voting ballots. Our wallets and our feet. Our wallets that can potentially change the face of the world every time we buy something. Will we encourage the little guy or the mega multinational? Will we encourage ethics or greed, clean environment or pollution? Our feet that can take us to activist groups, to street protests, to work for real progress.

QuidamOutrepont comments on Jul 4, 2019:
I consider myself an existentialist, but not a nihilist. Sure we might feel small and insignificant in this endless universe. So what? To my humble knowledge, the universe goes from the infinitely large to the infinitely small. From the infinite past to the infinite future. At a speed somewhere between the infinitely slow and the infinitely fast. Knowing all of this, I simply focus on what I can feel and what I can understand from my humble human point of view. I believe there are so many wonderful things in this material world, I don't see no need to make up any kind of super-natural stuff. Also, the universe is at the same time orderly and chaotic. It spans from the infinitely cruel to the infinitely kind. So what?! Just don't be an ass!

QuidamOutrepont comments on Jul 1, 2019:
I went into some complicated relationships with some single moms, a bit similar to what you're going through now. Some single moms might be OK. But with the ones I met, I found it really hard to deal with the hesitation, the delay, the smoke screening. Not as much as with the mom's kids as with the families. You may try to be understanding as much as you can, but it feels like you're stepping on someone else's toes in every step you make. I found this real tough in the long run. I though I could stand the punches, but then came that one too many blow that sent me down on the floor. I was physically and emotionally down and out. Lost my relationship, lost my job, went into a depression. I was fortunate to have the help of my family and got some serious professional help. I'm now back on my feet, new job, new girlfriend (with no kids) new life, new town. And it's strange but, the deeper I get in the atheism thinking, the less I believe in any form of afterlife, the more value I give to my own life and the further I get from the idea of comiting suicide. I went down and I got myself some help to get back up. I hope you do the same.

I hope that life offers you as much as I think you have to offer. Hugs and smiles from the other side of this continent.
