I'm in the process of inviting a Mormon, Baptist, and Jahovahs Witness to my home and have them all ...
Sofabeast comments on Mar 27, 2019:
For the Jehovah, how many places in heaven are there, and how many left? Is there a quota? And what happens when it is full? Do souls get chucked out? For the Baptist, What happened to all of those souls that could never have heard the word of Jesus because of Geography, time or mental condition? If we are made in Gods image, are we the best he could do, only we don't last long and wear out quick. And the Mormon, Jo Smith, he was making it all up wasn't he. Got caught by the wife playing away from home - God said. Then those stones that only he could translate - err God did it. Give me your money - God says so!

Every so often, this particular topic comes up.
Sofabeast comments on Mar 27, 2019:
Well said, should there be otherwise a 'Catfish' option for those who just wish to play people? Post the image you are happy with. I'm a plump Englishman in a kilt in my photo. Usually I'm a stout Englishman in trousers. But I live in Scotland. I'd like to find love, and I think it would be unfair to show a photo of me when I was young and sexy, as I'm almost 57 and not sexy. I don't add 'Here for community' but that is what I do. No one has asked me for a date, and to be honest, I don't think that will ever happen.
Should something be done about this?
Sofabeast comments on Mar 27, 2019:
Some people are drivers of the economies, ideas and society. They should be rewarded for that, but there is a limit or else revolution at some point will break out. Perhaps in the Capitalist world the rich should be taxed upon assets, not income. Society becomes less happy when there is a huge disparity between haves and have nots. In the USA, wealth is worshiped above all else, but the masses are denied access to it by the rich, who then indoctrinate the masses into believing that taxation of their riches would be terrible, as socialism is theft of private property. There is a balance point, look at Japan for an example.
The subconscious.
Sofabeast comments on Mar 27, 2019:
Dreams, the Royal road to the subconscious. The fact is, we can only at this time have a subjective view of dreams, and there is no truly supportive evidence that there is any meaning to dreams. And therefore, are only the random firings of activity of the brain stem as it organises memories/images into linier data. Lincoln may have had many dreams of his death before, disappearing like 'tears in the rain'. The same for Helen Duncan. Likelihood is, she was awoken during a ship sinking dream and thus, remembered it more vividly.

Sofabeast comments on Mar 25, 2019:
Apart form that, Gove has a face I just want to punch. And that isn't a nice thing to say about a person I have never met or really know as a human being. I know of many others who think the same, or to be more truthful, I don't know many who don't want to punch him in the manner of an old style school bully. As for our PM, Theresa May is the best they've got, which is a very sad thing to say.

Yes, atheists CAN believe in ghosts. - YouTube
Sofabeast comments on Mar 22, 2019:
Surely it all depends what you may see as being a ghost. The late Micheal Bentine believed them to be recordings of events into a place, much like magnetic tape can have sounds and images recorded onto it. I've encountered 'ghosts', but as for what they really were - I can't say. What I encountered may be nothing more than my imagination producing a hallucination. Plenty of psychological reference material for being the answer to what ghosts are. Maybe our 'spirits' are energy and what appears is just the change in the focus of that energy? One day, I'm sure we'll find out, but until then I think they are more likely to be phenomena of the mind.
What do you do when religious people knock?
Sofabeast comments on Mar 22, 2019:
I love to debate, I love to correct their literature and offer them other alternatives. I give them history and questions - such as why did Jesus appear there and at that time? After all, wouldn't a smart god have dropped off the its word when there were only a few humans about, living in the same place and having the same language? Then what about heaven? If we cannot get into heaven without letting Jesus into our heart, what about the billions who could never have encountered his word? Then that word could only travel at walking pace across the globe until the invention of the radio. It's all bollocks really. An alternative I offer them is, creation is 'god'. I don't offer the science of creation, merely we are here and so is everything else. Creation happened, so as part of that evolution and constant change happen. The bible was written by people, and thus, must be fallible. Gently removing the support of their holy book filling them with doubt. In the end, I strive to make them think. Once they start to think and question, then the roots of atheism is planted. Some however, are too dumb to change.
Doing a PPt on wound care.
Sofabeast comments on Mar 21, 2019:
Maggots and honey. My late father's surgical team wished they have used them. However, assuming that you can't add them as NHS treatment, you could add it in as a discussion point. I've seen it work on animals - My late wife had a cat come in with an open wound infested with maggots, she tended where the maggots had got to the wound, and dressed it with some pure honey. Honey is anti bacterial if sticky, but he wound was closed and clean quicker than she would have expected. This method of treatment was used in Ancient Egypt with apparent success. Look it up, and add it in, if only to turn some stomachs https://woundcareadvisor.com/using-maggots-in-wound-care-part-1-vol3-no4/ https://www.dermnetnz.org/topics/honey/

Sofabeast comments on Mar 20, 2019:
Try to find a Butlers shop for hot chocolate and chocolate. Enjoy being ripped off in Eire, I mean that in a good way, so be prepared to haggle. Head north to Limerick, there is a lovely castle/living museum there. As for London, what part are you staying in? You'll need an Oyster card to travel as all of London Transport is cash free. Eire is metric and you'll need Euros, so Kilometres, Kilos, Grammes, Litres, Celsius but also pints (20oz British ones, not puny 16oz) Ireland has better tea. Craic (krak) is fun, not drugs. Part of the EU. Generally public transport is good in Eire. England/UK semi-metric - pints and miles. Possibly part of the EU, or maybe not. Plastic £5 & £10 notes. Northern Irish £5 notes are not legal tender on the UK mainland if you end up with some. Beware there are five different types. Both places - make fun of Trump, we all hate him, so you'll get a sympathy vote. We drive on the left, remember that when crossing roads, however, if you go to Dublin, it's pot luck what side of the road they drive on there. Trams are fun in Dublin. Ask how to use them if you are there.

Do you think it's ok for people to judge European Americans based solely on their race?
Sofabeast comments on Mar 19, 2019:
Within the USA non-Europeans suffer detrimental bias based upon race. Now I can argue that there is only one race, the human race. We are far more similar than different, but we humans do have external markers of colour. This affects our eyes, hair and skin, then we have differing shapes too. Racism has existed for all of recorded history, and likely much, much longer. During the nineteenth century white European scientists began to categorise people by race. At the time, it appeared to be logical and scientific. The eugenics movement began in the UK and rapidly caught on in Germany and the USA where it remained popular beyond WWII. Only with the rise of the Civil Rights movement did it finally begin to be debunked. However, the ideas still remain entrenched with some fuckwits. In a weeks time, I will be writing a short sociology paper on the subject of racism in the UK.

I was pondering the same about two hours ago myself. I believe that we need to put Brexshit on hold for up to a year, have a general election, with some of the MPs being exempt from standing - May, Bo-Jo, Gove, Fox, Mogg and Corbyn. Form a government of national unity for the duration of the crisis. Then put the choice of WTO, New Deal and remain to the public as a binding vote using single transferable voting. This will confirm the decision. Add to this an objective organisation who will fact check statements and the the deals consequences. Then like France, halt electioneering three days prior to the vote so the public can think. If some stupid media outlet decides to state how to vote, the the process will be halted and the media fined for the whole cost of the delay.
Who elses does this? Be honest.

Sofabeast comments on Mar 11, 2019:
A problem I also see or hear, is the literal interpretation of the King James bible. The priestly evangelical caste don't appear to understand the differences of linguistic translations. Let alone how language has evolved over time. In old Hebrew, to wash the feet of a person, was to give oral sex in everyday meaning during the time of Christ. I dare say, the truth is known by the church, but it's all about power and money. Disclaimer - As part of my employment, I support a service user to a church now and again.

It is a stupid thing. Invented by a Liberal Member of Parliament (UK) to allow his son more daylight to get to school, and began implementation during the spring on 1918. If a different starting time is useful, then let it be the starting time of peoples work, not entire countries. In the USA the time changes on the 10th March, the UK changes a couple of weeks later. Sofabeast comments on Mar 10, 2019:
There are too many emotions involved in Brexit. Cold hard logic producing intelligent conclusions has been ignored. Will the UK be better off with Theresa May's deal or WTO rules? It has to be her deal since the English people decided to take the UK out of the EU. I would rather that the 2016 referendum was seen as being purely advisory. Then the government would seek to firstly build a coalition of unity involving all parties to produce consensus on the options for the UK. Once they have been explored they would be scrutinised by parliament who would produce a selection of final choices for the people to vote on. In the primary and secondary campaigns a non-political group must be used to cross-check the facts. That way the NHS bus would have been outed as a lie and those spouting it as facts could be exposed liars.

How do you manage to deal with theist people talking about God?
Sofabeast comments on Mar 4, 2019:
I depends on whether they are prepared to accept other views. Some I have encountered cannot deal with a non-Christian perspective. With those I tend to join in praising 'HER' when referring to their invisible friend. Then I make up some crap about mis-translations whilst putting on my 'superior English accent'. For those that try to convince me that their god did it, then I will use reasoned argument. For Christians there is always 'made in Gods image'. Just look at us (humans), what a FUBAR. Limited life span, fat, ugly, skinny, Autism, cancer, genetic diseases and other disabilities. The list appears endless. Why would a perfect being making a version of itself screw up in such a monumental way? For Islam, many of the arguments are the same, but I will autopsy Mohammed and suggest that his epilepsy affected his right frontal lobe with an Oligodendroglioma grade II tumour, changing to grade IV later on. This accounts for his bursts of hyper-intelligence and religious encounters. This are fairly common symptoms with these tumours in that location. It's something they can read up on. Has Porn Become the Ultimate Passion Killer?
Sofabeast comments on Mar 3, 2019:
A mate and myself have debated the 'anal' intrusion into porn and sex between men and women. We cannot pin down when it started or importantly why. I cannot really see a good reason to indulge in anal when there is a perfectly perfect vagina to enter. What is more, an entry point that is designed to have a penis enter it. The anus is meant to expel, not receive. I wouldn't ask a lady (should I ever find one to be intimate with) for bum sex, it's simply 'nae right'. I don't think I would go there, even if offered. Porn can be a fun. My late wife used to enjoy it. We both preferred something with plenty of kissing and what appears to be attraction and interaction by the performers and at least a bit of a story that fills in our fantasies. Porn of course can be evil and violent or include socially unacceptable acts as well. Porn can just be hairy man arses and disinteresting lesbians who are just wanting to get the job done and finish work for the day.

My daughter had some trouble when she announced there was no God in Religious Education some years ago. Over the following two lessons, there were very few believers left. That was a proud mum and dad time.
Let's do the time warp again....

Michele Fox, volunteer with Go Vegan Scotland appeared on Scotland Tonight on @stv.
Sofabeast comments on Feb 20, 2019:
I only saw part of the interview. But it appeared to be intended to be confrontational by STV. Now would I go Vegan based on what I saw? No is the simple answer. I don't eat meat every day, and I should try to cut down further but I am not convinced that a Vegan lifestyle is a good idea. However, to get back to the point, What I saw was the farmer attempting to debate, whilst the presenter was goading a fight. News programmes MUST be balanced in debate, otherwise they descend into being propaganda. Well done to Michele for sticking it out.
I want your opinions. Do you guys think what Israel is doing to Palestine is right?
Sofabeast comments on Feb 20, 2019:
I find what Israel is doing in Palestine is immoral and abhorrent. It is as though they have learned the lesson from history and are putting them to use, but without Zyclon B! I don't know enough about Kashmir to comment
Does anyone find that healthy sexual expression and openness is currently taking a unfortunate hit ...

Not where I live, there is a very healthy openness to sex. I live in the North East of Scotland
Racism is on the rise. Why do you think that is?
Sofabeast comments on Feb 20, 2019:
Racism it has been debated, is a political construct. Thus, governments and the people behind them will from time to time make use of racism to propel their agendas forwards. Race is merely a bureaucratic manner to catagorise people. Marx argued race is simply the class struggle and has been put together by the bourgeoisie to divide to masses against each other. The question is, is racism really on the rise? I'll look into that either later (I've got a chunk of Mein Kampf to wade through) or tomorrow morning (GMT) as this is my first subject at college.

I'm all proofread out. I've just posted up an assessment myself - thank you bloody Labour and Brexit for constant rewrites! Fed up up of checking references, Harvard referencing can go to non-existent hell.

Sofabeast comments on Feb 18, 2019:
It can be argued that there disparity in income is not only natural, but necessary for society to thrive. Friction appears when there is a disparity in happiness and fairness between the haves and have-nots. Once this hits an unacceptable level all that is needed to light the fire of revolution is a spark. The rich must be prepared to give up some of their excess spoils to prevent the violent removal of all of their treasures.

Seven Labour M.
Sofabeast comments on Feb 18, 2019:
Labour down by eight MPs! I wonder if Chuka's 7 will increase their number and overthrown the evil Servalan... Theresa May. To be serious, though. I consider it likely that their potential of leaving had been discovered my Momentum who were then going to drop them in it with Corbyn. That way, he'd just bump them off one at a time replacing them with party liners. This way they get to give a voice to the middle or road politics that makes the British system work. Given some extra support from other more like minded politicians, they could form a new consensus party on similar lines that makes the SNP work. Corbyn has so far been an utter failure at being the head of the opposition and therefore is almost an equal to the Catastrophic Theresa May in the Brexit fiasco. PS, in case people didn't know, a Labour MP died over the weekend.
Regarding The Mantra “Therefore God Exists”.
Sofabeast comments on Feb 18, 2019:
Rene Descarte came up the idea of God the perfect being and therefore must exist etc. John Locke countered his argument by enlightening him that since he (Descarte) found there was no God, he had to come up with an idea to cover his fear of death and that he had wasted so much time believing in something that was not there. Hobbes agreed with Locke on this point.

Is love meaningless?
Sofabeast comments on Feb 15, 2019:
Scientifically speaking, what love is exactly remains unknown. What is supported by investigation is that there is a broad panoply of effects which are categorised under the label of love. Attraction whether familial, sexual-sensual, emotional or physical produces reactions that can last a lifetime. Is it meaningless? It has to be an evolutionary adaption, so no, it must have meaning which is possible we interpret in a subjective way. I have been, and really still am deeply in love with my late wife. As for Romeo & Juliet, yes they were stupid. There were other options available, and their characters would have been Catholic, and thus, gone to hell. At we know that bit is wobble nonsense! At the moment, it is all subjective.
