Hello to my fellow atheists and free thinkers. I've been out of the atheist closet for a couple of decades now, having wasted several decades searching the various religious texts and sects trying to make sense of life. My outlook is science based with the provision that science is still in its infancy and there is so much more we have to learn, so I don't dismiss the unknown any more than I accept that there are things that are unknowable, we just haven't reached that level of understanding yet.

The duck billed platypus is the chimera of the animal kingdom so there may be some symbolism there, that's assuming there is a subconscious connection to your dream life and your waking life. Even Freud acknowledged that sometimes a cigar was just a cigar. It is interesting that the platypus emerged from the ashes which is a rebirth image, maybe a new start in your career juggling many balls and wearing many hats. Just a wild ass guess as I don't know your personal circumstances.

People get offended for all sorts of reasons and often it really doesn't have much to do with what you have said but how they are feeling about their own life. I can't do much to change that because it's not my life but I sometimes try to be sympathetic to their plight, especially when I don't see any real reason for them to be offended. If you can retire early, what you will do in your Life?
Surfpirate comments on Apr 25, 2018:
I retired at 48, decided to travel instead and I don't regret it. I do what I want, when I want instead of what others want, when they want it. Currently, I am working on the construction of a home for my wife and myself but once that is done I will be looking for other projects to occupy myself. Retirement doesn't mean I stop working it just means that I do the work I want to and on my own terms.

Surfpirate comments on Jul 4, 2018:
I use a bit of soapy water, sometimes with a dash of rubbing alcohol to get rid of any persistent pests like Squash Beetles, otherwise I rely on planting heirloom seeds that are already adapted to resist pests and plantings that deter pests. My garden is bordered with 600 garlic plants and a few dozen marigolds which helps to deter pests and I have a pond beside it which attracts frogs, toads and birds which feed on any bugs that come to dine on what's mine. :)

Surfpirate comments on Aug 11, 2018:
The pottery in this part of South America was very advanced and the glazes were as good as anything the greeks or romans were producing, those glazes also survived quite well but not as well as the pottery from Peru which is very arid and this helped preserve these pieces, mostly collect by grave robbers and then sold to archaeologists. The sand dunes are hundreds of feet high along this section of coastal Peru and it is very dry indeed as evidenced by this mummified dwarf that was found in a burial site from Chan Chan.

In broad strokes I like that the 10 Commandments were implemented to undo the confusion caused by the hundreds of religious rules created by the priests but even this was too much for the knuckle dragging, bronze age primitives to understand so iron age Jesus is sent back with just 2 rules - love your brothers and sisters and also love god which we are all expressions of, so really just one rule - LOVE. Still fucking that one up in a big way. The other general premise I like is that Lucifer is portrayed as the great evil and cause of suffering because he insisted that humankind have freewill, all the suffering of humanity is linked to this concept and god heaps pain and suffering on his creation because it has the audacity to want to be free. Makes a person wonder just where the evil truly lies, fortunately most believers let that one fly right over their little heads, bowed to the ground in fear and supplication.

I once got fired for building a latrine for my men on a job in the West Indies, the racist owner of the company I was subcontracting from felt that my black workers should go do their business in the jungle because that's where the other animals went to have a shit. The jungle behind the luxurious mansion I was build was littered with the dusk masks that my local workers used to wipe their asses with and then place on top of their shit so they wouldn't step in it on their next trip into the jungle. The owner of the property intervened and I was reinstated immediately, my men got to keep their latrine on site which I insisted my white workers and myself use instead of going back to the hotel where my white workers lived, that insured that there was always toilet paper and it was kept clean.
It has been a horrible day.

Surfpirate comments on May 26, 2018:
Until Americans (I say Americans instead of people because this really is an American problem, nobody else in the 1st world does this shit to the extent that Americans do) get tired of always living under the threat of being shot, the carnage will continue. Why can't the US be more like Canada? You have a problem with someone? You talk it out and if that doesn't work then you just punch them in the face a couple of times until you feel better, then you apologize, offer them a hand up off of the floor and buy them a beer. If the guy's nose is broken, no big deal, a trip to the emergency room is free and they'll reset it in no time. All of this guns, guns, guns mentality is just silly - it's much easier to fix a broken nose than it is to patch up a sucking chest wound - stop it.

According to some studies there is a direct correlation between profanity and intelligence, the more profane you are the more likely you are to have a higher level of intelligence. Now with that fucking load of shite out of the way I would just like to say that language is all about communication and it needs to be adapted to the audience if ones point is going to be conveyed properly. I'm a commercial builder and that means I deal with tradespeople as well as architects and engineers and other professionals, so I have to adapt my speech to the audience. I don't use words like motherfucker, cocksucker, son of a bitch, fuckwit, or the C bomb in my meetings with professionals unless I truly want to shock them to the point their socks fall off but if I don't use all of the above words in various and creative combinations then most of my production people can't seem to understand me. The C bomb is the really tricky one, especially if I am talking to some of my Irish mates where it doesn't have the same connotation at all as it does with my North America associates but then I switch gears and start talking with people who take that completely the other way. So you use what works for you in the current situation.

Surfpirate comments on Jul 18, 2018:
I attribute more meaning to my dreams but maybe that's just me or maybe I have been following my dreams so long that they make more sense to me than they do to people that just don't want to think about them. After all, dreams can have some very disturbing images in them, upsetting, taboo and terrifying; I can hardly blame people for not wanting to deal with them. Other cultures attributed a great deal more importance to the dream state than we do as Westerners, to each their own.

Good thing she got that out of the way for you right up front, it's annoying enough being a landlord with a decent tenant never mind a problem tenant. On those occasions when I have rented a house I have had some rather strange landlords make unreasonable claims upon me and I have successfully defended myself but generally people are good and reasonable when it comes to being a lessor or a lessee.
