I was raised Lutheran and believed in a god until I was about twelve. I had already read the Bible cover to cover and finally started to smell the BS. At first I thought there was something seriously wrong with me because, well, EVERYONE believed in god!
I kept this secret to myself until I was fourteen. I was at my (very religious but a big hypocrite) grandmother’s house and the news was showing some kind of protest on TV. My grandmother commented that they were all going to hell. Why? “Because they’re atheists! They don’t believe in god!” AAAAAAHHhhHh! It was like the sun came out for the first time in my life! I wasn’t alone! Other people...lots of them...didn’t believe in god! I felt like I had just been born.
