How come most people don't feel sorry when a fish dies?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 30, 2018:
Humans are strange creatures with illogical biases and strange psychological ideas. They will cry if a newborn kitten dies, if a dog gets a broken leg, but could care less that 1,000 highly intelligent pigs were slaughtered to give their city tasty pork chops for their BBQ's on the weekend. Most suffering cats and dogs with illnesses and injuries would more humanely be euthanized the same as is logically done with non-pet animals. But humans get attached to things like pets, and anthropomorphize them with human attributes the animals actually do not have to the extent the owners imagine. Well, except for the Siamese cats that I had as pets, because they were so smart. And I knew they loved me, and I could tell what they were thinking sometimes by their expressions, and of course they understood every word I said!

WalterWhite comments on Apr 30, 2018:
Most of us are totally unaware that our little conscious minds have a silent partner, the larger MASTER brain subconscious mind, that works 24/7, never sleeps, is aware even under anesthetics, and is in charge of all vital body functions, is directly connected to all our senses, and has control over all our memories. And it actually makes a lot of our so called "free will" decisions for us before we know we have decided. This silent partner works at 10 times the speed of our smaller thinking mind, and we ONLY are aware of the outside world through interpretations that IT makes from analyzing data from memory, our life patterns, and sensory information. If we mess up that complex brain chemistry function in our hidden MASTER brain by taking alcohol, drugs, or by being affected by things like strong emotions, religious indoctrination, trauma, or illness etc, it can malfunction. Then it can send a false interpretation of the outside world to our consciousness, and we see and experience weird things like drug trips, euphoria, having people in a room look more attractive than they really are, feeling the holy presence of Allah or Jesus, seeing ghosts, or our long dead parents, and so many other things. Thankfully, our deeper MASTER brain works very well most of the time, and so quickly and seamlessly in our lives that we are not even aware it is there looking after us, guiding our every step and watching out for us. It sees that car speeding towards us before we are consciously aware of it, and it has already sent messages to our muscles to get out of the way before we can think what to do. And yes, it can give us hints that we call intuition or gut feelings that we do not understand. Have you thanked your MASTER brain lately for all it does? lol

Is There A Singles Group Here?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 30, 2018:
Clicking the Meet tab gives you the Groups option to see the many dozens of Groups available and by clicking the "Next" at the bottom of each list you will see there is a wide variety. I saw a few like Tamp Singles, and an NYC group. Many individual States have their own local groups too. Just by participating in discussion groups you come across people you connect with in some way and you can always check out anyone's Profile to see what they are looking for.

It's funny though that the money does not get deposited in God's account in the Vault of Heaven, but most ends up in the Clergy's pockets. Two things every Supreme Omnipotent Being are incapable of doing are creating their own Word of God books on their own, and creating money to support their own religions.
Religious exodus post discovery of anti-aging?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 30, 2018:
No, from looking into this over the years the Neuroscience and Psychology says mostly it is hidden brain chemistry, and it works like a strong mental addiction over time to satisfy the believer's inner emotional and psychological needs. The "Parent Attachment" even for adults is a hidden craving for a higher power to watch over them, love them, guide them and bless them sometimes like Mommy and Daddy used to do. Also, they get an extra kick of feel good brain chemicals like dopamine and serotonin when gathering in worship with other believers, which reinforces their beliefs and addiction to return. The religious indoctrination happens by using time-tested methods like repetitious rituals, sermons, and reading monotonous verses, and chanting or singing etc. It's highly effective to place vulnerable minds in a semi-hypnotic receptive state. Humans love rituals and are fascinated by the concept of supernatural things as well. No wonder over 5 billion have fallen victim to it.

I have only found one important label that applies to all, and that is human being. Then if something comes up in a conversation related to if I am gay or trans or Spanish or asexual or British or female, or a Chinese food lover, then I make a point of explaining further on that point if needed. I am a gay male, but I have no need to wave signs or introduce myself that way to anyone, and I could care less if they thought I was straight or not a male. I do see that the specific labels are good for talking about things specifically related to trans topics, or asexual issues, but like you say it gets very complicated trying to please everyone to get them all included in special ways. If people could get past thinking they must have a special label which everyone else must acknowledge and use, to be able to interact with them, then they would be much further ahead in showing their special label is not as important as the common humanity between them and everyone else to engage in everyday conversations and activities. Just my view and I welcome being told I am way off base if there are some good reasons behind it. Very easy going myself. :)

WalterWhite comments on Apr 29, 2018:
It is normal to fear death to some extent and some people do so more than others. We hate the idea of ending the joys and challenges of life and losing contact with those who mean so much to us. But like the changing seasons it is beyond our control. But consider for a minute what YOU were like, about one year before you were even conceived? A state of non-existence. So for a while we as individuals, get to experience life just like every other species does, and we as humans have some consciousness, so we can have complex lives with ups and downs and do the best we can. The time will come when our systems and biochemistry fails and that consciousness will no longer be able to exist, and like the RAM on a computer, no electrical energy will remain to manifest it. So again, YOU, your sense of self, and consciousness will again be non-existent. Death is not peace like we hear so often, or feeling no more pain and suffering, but in truth just non-existence with no thoughts or feelings at all. And because it is normal and natural and we have no alternative anyway, for me I do not waste to much time losing sleep over it. Maybe that comes from having led a rewarding life, and feeling fulfilled spiritually to be content and at peace. I admit I do feel sad when children or young people die without having had much chance to experience life. While we ourselves must die, humanity goes on, hopefully enriched a little by things we did and thoughts we passed on to others in so many small ways. While we are limited, Life itself is virtually eternal, but not in a religious sense.

I live in Canada, in an urban area, and now there is practically no "danger" as such at all. I would not say things are perfect and there still is some homophobia I guess, but nothing like what I saw in my youth say 40 years ago. I am gay, but was rather fearful and wimpy and tried to fit into what society expected of me and did have a 20 years marriage which was rather good actually. I have a wonderful son from that, and by chance he way gay as well and came out to me first, at age 18, which was after I had come out to my family and the world in a more shocking way a few years earlier. Life is complicated! Both both my ex-wife and I did find a new man in our lives about a year after we separated. And again I had a great loving and fulfilling 12 year relationship with the guy. For various reasons we did decided to part though a few years ago, and are still best friends. Maybe I am greedy but at 69 I am again searching to find that closeness and bond again still having a craving to hold a guy in my arms to cuddle, and cherish faithfully. I will need a local person, but this Community is great and I enjoy speaking with many people regardless of orientation here on many topics and hope to make a few cyber friends here at least. I do hope you also will find your way to reach your goals of having the love and relationship you need and deserve. Good luck!

Welcome, and I think you will find the discussions and topics here interesting. Feel free to offer your input, and some ideas and wisdom from older people are appreciated because they have had more life experience and had to deal with these same issues. It was a bit tougher in our day for older gays like you and me when even holding hands or admitting at work that you were gay was met with shock or being socially ostracized. I have a gay son who is now 36, and had few problems after he came out. He has been married to a great guy for over 12 years, and they have had a lot of support from family and friends for their relationship from the beginning. Being gay is less of an issue here in Canada now, but things are not perfect fro sure. We still have a ways to go to bring more enlightenment into some minds.

WalterWhite comments on Apr 28, 2018:
Personally I have never seen much purpose to tattoos anymore than a decoration like a new hat or ring or wearing colored contacts. I have no problem at all with those that do if they have some need to, but I am not my body or the decorations or lack of decorations on it. I am just me, the person inside, the consciousness and the one who has the love and knowledge and life experience that is truly what others will be making contact with if they want to know me. Having worked with looking after many seniors in the last years of their lives I did see a few tattoos from earlier in their lives. They were more likely to try to hide their sagging dragons, roses, and star shapes that were all distorted. But again I want to say I fully support people's right to have them. I have seen some that were very impressive and the 3D ones can be awesome and sometimes scary! https://youtu.be/K-1tyIYxAPo

I have lived long enough to comprehend that my humanity and being the person I choose to be is much more than me being in any state of permanent perfect happiness, real or not. Happiness is not my goal in life, living fully in Reality no matter what it brings is my goal. That is in fact why when Theists tell me how great Heaven will be I tell them, no! l think I would soon find being happy for an infinite period of time to be an utter Hell for me, by being inescapable and unchangeable. As a human being I think I need challenges and problems, and people to help, and mountains to climb, and my heart aches to heal, and sunsets to see, and surprise gifts to open. An inescapable endless joy seems very inhuman and terrifying to me. Sorry, I do not want to be hooked up to a pleasure Matrix no matter how real it might seem. :) I want just want be who I already am, content and at peace in my heart being an imperfect human being.

Atheists must unite! Sexually I mean to reproduce quickly please! lol Not likely. Yes, the honest truth is that intelligence is not a big factor in Mother Nature's recipe for making a species fit for survival. Adaptability is the main factor and uneducated idiots can often do that as well as Ph.D's. Our future as always is in the hands of that higher power, namely Mother Nature, and Life is not fair it just is. Humans are not special or necessary except in our own eyes. If we have to go to restore the balance, then so be it. Nature in fact is already taking strong measures to counteract the thoughtless, short-sighted, and destructive effects of our species over the last centuries. We can talk and plan and fail, and talk more and make nice plans and fail again, but Mother Nature is unstoppable and will have her way. It is already too late for mankind to save the vital ocean bacteria which is steadily declining, ocean waters are warming and rising, weather systems are growing more intense. Places like Puerto Rico have not recovered from last year's storms to even have power restored decently yet, and a new hurricane season is on the way. We will feel effects that will kill many tens of millions or maybe more before the end of this century. Be comforted by the talk of politicians and world leaders of actions they plan, but know that Mother Nature is not easily fooled or that patient, and is already taking appropriate action.

Why is Faith considered so dearly and science is not?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 27, 2018:
Science is valued greatly too, and most Theists use and rely on Science for dozens of things in their lives every day. But for religious people you must realize that Faith is designed specifically to satisfy them on an emotional and psychological level that releases fell good brain chemicals to make them feel good. This is especially enhanced in gatherings of fellow worshippers where they reinforce each other's beliefs. Religion is basically a mental addiction that takes advantage of many well known weak human emotional and psychological needs. In Psychology they even have a term called "Parent Attachment" for the subconscious need that even most adults have for a subliminal wish that there was someone to watch over them, love them, guide them, and bless them sometimes, like Mommy and Daddy used to do. Theists get a similar brain chemical kick from their gatherings as people do going to an exciting rock concert, or political rally, parade, or sports game. The mighty "power of belief" is driven mainly by hidden brain chemistry functions well known in Neuroscience. That is why the usual sound reasoning and facts make no difference when debating with Theists. Their addiction will keep a good hold on them, not too different than for cocaine or nicotine addicts.

I have had two occasions in my life where my doctor recommended a qualified Chiropractor to me, and both times it relieved me of pain with a couple treatments and they also taught me movement exercises to strengthen muscles to prevent the pain from returning. Also, I have had a couple family members use Chiropractors and they were satisfied. This is in Canada for me.

Atheist principles - would atheists be interested in listing basic atheist principles?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 27, 2018:
Atheism has no doctrines or principles to follow. People who happen to be Atheists are free to follow any principles they feel like, and like most people they will probably be decent people with decent morals, but may do some misguided things sometimes. I hear many Atheists say they admire the Buddhist teachings for sensible ways to lead your life. Myself, I am guided by love, truth, and peace, and I have not found any religion that can offer anything better than that anyway.
Reincarnation or DNA Memory?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 27, 2018:
Never heard of such a theory. DNA has no capacity to store memories, but there are familial common traits of course. Normal memories of people are not stored in any one place as one unit anyway. A memory of one event for example is sorted in many separate places in the brain for separate ideas like images, smells, sounds or emotional factors. But while being stored in different areas they are linked, so one smell or sound might have the brain recall all the pieces of the memory together. There has never been one single scientifically proven cases of real reincarnation, but I researched it one time and I found they had 5 mysterious cases from the past that seem legit. With no actual proof though, the honest scientific answer for why those very few people did seem to have genuine past memories is "We do not know the answer yet."
Can we forgive humans for being human?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 27, 2018:
In my youth I had the usual immaturity and I held on to things like anger and resentments. Over the years, starting after 40 or so, I realized how useless and unproductive holding on to hate and resentments was. So I can be assertive and speak my mind, but I have no need to hold on to blame or anger to not forgive people. Whether for insults or things they might do, by accident or on purpose, that cause me harm or pain. I have no trouble forgiving. Forgiveness comes automatically to me knowing people can do things for misguided reasons, and holding on to anger and resentments does more harm to me that anyone else. Not saying I am, or ever was perfect, since perfection is not possible for us imperfect human beings. But I do my best to be forgiving as quickly as possibly. Using reason and the Scientific Method are only tools we use to figure things out, and because the possibilities of questions we come up with are unlimited, we will never have all the answers. Reaching some ultimate end or truth or goal is not the purpose of Life. The purpose of Life for all species is the same, that being to survive and to thrive as best we can to fulfill our needs, and for humans maybe our hopes and dreams.

WalterWhite comments on Apr 27, 2018:
I'm an Apatheist who has participated in many Atheist forums, and I support general feminism. Oddly while participating in various Atheist media forums, I have still seen some misogynistic attitudes and resistance against feminism. Often I found that they thought all feminism was aggressive radical feminism. I support full equal rights for women in all aspects of life, including rights over her own body for abortions. I do think prospective fathers can express their wishes for or against an abortion, but ultimately it is the woman's decision for what happens in her body. The unGodly influences for centuries by the Abrahamic religions for training women that they should submit to men seems unjust and immoral. I am glad modern women are realizing their power to work together to make long overdue changes. Millions of women are still locked in a mindset of submission unfortunately clinging to old traditions. Improvements have happened, but many decades of work to bring enlightenment to more places are still needed.

Does the thought of dying alone scare you?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 27, 2018:
Everyone dies alone unless perhaps from multiple deaths in a bomb blast or something. Having people around you at death may be comforting to you before you enter the death process, and may be comforting to those people themselves, but once the body slips into the actual death process which may take from 3 to 5 minutes or more, you are on your own. Some people may be drugged and sedated to be unaware of what is happening of course. The brain is often the last thing to shut down long after the heart and breathing has stopped, so there can be minutes of mental chaos and panic as the brain struggles to survive even cannibalizing its own tissue for vital oxygen and glucose for energy to function. Depends on circumstances of death, but most people will lose conscious awareness before the scary parts happen. .
The Truth About Sex After 40: Survey Reveals How Our Preferences Change With Age
WalterWhite comments on Apr 27, 2018:
A lot of our preferences change with age so that is not unusual. I think it is more the teens and 20's set who might find sex on the beach at midnight, or in the backseat of a car, or on the kitchen table to be perfectly fine when the mood strikes. :) At 69 I still have desires and am able to function, but certainly more slowly and not as well as 20 years ago. To me now, sex is more about cuddling, intimacy, loving contact and mutual play and pleasure, rather than pretending I am a porn stud.

Is science & religion compatible?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 26, 2018:
Easy to answer. NO. Science is based on evidence and proof, while religions are only "belief systems" based on accepting what the religion trains you to accept to satisfy emotional and psychological needs, by just taking comforting man-made stories on faith. They are fundamentally irreconcilable as Hitchens used to say. The God believers are free to accept many ideas of Science as well of course, but the religion itself must adhere to its doctrine that "the God named (insert your favorite one here) did it!"

WalterWhite comments on Apr 26, 2018:
Agnosticism is not based on the idea of belief or lack of belief. That is Theism and Atheism. Agnosticism is a knowledge based position with the concept of gods being unknowable. If these other "sentient beings" do not fit the usual definition for gods, then they have nothing to do with the position of Agnosticism. So feel free to have a belief or not. A belief by definition does not even require any good evidence to have it anyway. Theists and most people just make up comforting reasons instead. The Gaia hypothesis or theory is more of a scientific view of how organic and inorganic things naturally work together on Earth, rather than anything involving sentience. You can believe in advanced aliens with sentience, or some sentient non-god Force or Being in another state of existence or alternate Universe if you wish to. What use that would be beyond fantasy I don't know though. We exist in a metaphysical Reality, since we have limited intelligence and limited abilities to even perceive the true nature of the Universe around us. Year after year we learn new things which just raise more questions needing more exploration. We will not exist long enough as a species to answer half the questions we have now. :)

We can only control ourselves and if someone gets turned off by something in our nature, or our thinking, or habits, then we must decide if WE wish to continue, or try to resolve the difference, or just move on. YOU have that same right if you find out they are a Theist or anything else that turns you off, correct? Free choice! :)

WalterWhite comments on Apr 26, 2018:
We don't have any infinite destiny of course, and are a temporary and rather fragile species. Our hopes and dreams may be infinite though. I think fear will remain a major part of all our lives the same as it has for humans for the last 200,000 years or more. Fear is the root of other common human attributes like greed, anger, and jealousy as well. Most likely we are a bit beyond halfway through our expected timeline of existence as a species, but on the reckless path we are on now, our end may come somewhat sooner. Any major astronomical disaster could end our species too, even though things like bacteria are more durable and adaptable, so they are more likely to survive most anything. I guess all we know for sure is that we have now.

Odds are many people do have some religious connection, but they still may be open and tolerant to not let it get in the way of friendships. Atheism has nothing to do with either knowledge or ignorance, and that falls under your own personal choice to support education, and to promote truth by having good evidence. Sometimes just being a volunteer with young people, or any age really, where you can point out ways for them to use sound thinking for problem solving. Planting the seeds of truth may sprout to enable them to better determine on their own what is real and what is not.

WalterWhite comments on Apr 26, 2018:
The Bible does have "do unto others", "love one another", and the more complex "love thine enemy" , but in truth all three of those concepts had already been written in ancient Hinduism long before. And History shows us that in fact the Hindus on average have followed those wise teachings better than the Christians ever did. You are right that many common sense Buddhist teachings are in the Bible as well as in other religions. I think some still take the Genesis idea of women needing to submit to the husband idea too far, just as burning witches and stoning gays or naughty children to death which did happen, seems completely barbaric. It might have turned out better if the early Christian writers had invented GOD to be female and less hostile and sadistically authoritarian.

Sounds like you gave it a lot of thought, and you followed your heart to try to save the friendship because it was certainly worth trying to save. Just as there are different types of Christians with different levels of tolerance and strict adherence to religious beliefs, the same holds true for modern Muslims. Poll: Evangelical Support For Trump Would Stay Same If He Were Discovered To Be Antichrist

What do you think of separate rooms for couples?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 26, 2018:
Just a personal preference, I guess. I suspect the vast majority of couples enjoy that intimate time in bed even without sex, for cuddling, and building a close bond with each other. Good time for some open honest communication too! But some couples, even with great sex, may have medical issues or other problems and are more comfortable sleeping separately to have better sleeps. Good sleep is vital for good health.

WalterWhite comments on Apr 26, 2018:
No need for it. Atheism is a personal decision and has no agenda or need to change the world. Like others have said here, forming groups based only on Atheism is counterproductive in the end. A few Atheist Church type groups have been tried, but they did not get very far The people themselves who happen to be Atheists can have agendas and perhaps want to champion social or political causes, and join such groups if they feel like it, but that does not derive from Atheism, but from their own desires and needs. Perhaps anti-Theists could make a group with an agenda, but Atheism itself is NOT Anti-Theism and has no doctrines or agenda.

Homo sapiens is a misnomer granted by scientists who had big heads and big egos. On retrospect after seeing so many humans putting burning leaves in their mouth for fun, and shooting people for talking to their Mom on their cellphone, and building weapons to destroy the world many times over, and seeing a solid swath of plastic garbage in the Pacific Ocean twice as big as the State of Texas, the scientists now wish they had stuck with a more honest Homo stupidens profundo.

WalterWhite comments on Apr 24, 2018:
The Pacific garbage patch on the ocean is larger than Texas and in fact may be twice as large as Texas and is still growing. Plastic does not deteriorate quickly, so wherever they take it it will still be a problem. Also, many nuclear waste sites in the U.S. have contents that are not stored well and no one seems much interested in how they will soon be leaking their deadly contents into the environment. The radioactive contents will last for hundreds and sometimes thousands of years into the future. I guess mankind is living in very interesting times for discovering the consequences of his reckless actions. I am confused why climate change is ignored?
WalterWhite comments on Apr 24, 2018:
No reason to be confused. The human species is not genetically or psychologically programmed to think long term beyond their own lifetimes. Also humans are driven by strong emotional and psychological needs that benefit them now, or give them pleasure now, over considering the long term consequences. Or the consequences for people in far distant countries. Most of humanity is poor, poorly educated, and very unenlightened. So it is already too late to reverse most of the damage done by mankind over the last centuries. One major irreversible effect is the ocean bacteria that provides about 50% of the oxygen we breathe. That output is deteriorating at dramatic levels and can not be restored by any man-made means. Besides lacking clean water or decent food our descendants will be starving for decent air to breathe. But a higher power has it all under control, and regardless of what mankind does or does not do, that power will restore the balance and life will go on. That power of course is Mother Nature who is already stepping in to correct the destructive effects of mankind. Whether we as a species survive or not is irrelevant to Mother Nature, but Life will survive and new species will continue evolving. All is as it should be.

WalterWhite comments on Apr 24, 2018:
The sad truth is we do not really know for sure one word Jesus the Nazarene might have said or not. Unlike most great teachers he failed to write down his words and teachings to protect them from being lost, or changed or misinterpreted when he died. Christians mainly go by writings done many years after the Romans killed Jesus, and they were all done by one small group of men who were starting up their new cult to gain followers and get donations. Most modern Bible Scholars and researchers now admit many of them are unknown authors. But Christians are content to be trained by their religion to take those later stories on faith and just accept and believe them, the same way as Hindus and Muslims are trained to just take their man-made tales on faith too. Nothing in the Old Testament from the Hebrew Bible writings has anything to do with Christianity, but the early Christan writers like Paul adopted them and made up fanciful new interpretations to suit their own purposes. Later the early Islamic writers used the exact same deception and copied in many story characters and story scenarios from both Judaism and Christianity when they invented Allah and the religion of Islam. People have always loved stories of supernatural things and invisible spirits. Too bad so many people can't tell what is real from what is not.

WalterWhite comments on Apr 23, 2018:
You are still you no matter what body you switch to. If however you mean you were born and raised in a different body, then most likely you would still be hetero because the odds of that are so much higher. Sexual preference does not equate to gender. Most physical males are attracted to females, and a small percentage to other males. Sexuality, sexual preference and gender exists on a wide spectrum, and some people are gender fluid, a very few are asexual even. There are lots of new confusing labels people stick on themselves to validate who they are, which are all irrelevant really because we are all just human beings. We are all 99.9% genetically identical no matter what color or shape or kind of hair, or what klind of sex organs we have. People are people!

Retreating from The Now
WalterWhite comments on Apr 22, 2018:
You embrace tha NOW completely because that is all that really exists. Neither the past nor fuiture exists. If you are getting "infuriated", you are free to do that, but I would not waste too much of your time choosing to be negative or angry. Respond, rather than just react. Learn to let go of things beyond yourself that you have no power over. You can use your influence as best you can, but there is no need to cling to the pain and suffering. I can choose to be content and at peace within myself even in the middle of chaos and high emotion. Maybe that comes from maturity and doing mindful meditation for years. But I think it is within the reach of everyone. I think personally I get more disoriented from NOT being in the now! There is no escape from Reality until the time of our inevitable death when "WE" will no longer have existence. Make the best of NOW because all else is not real.
Who wants to be a kid again? Free from responsibilities and bills!!

Not me. Been there, done that. Being a kid also "frees" you from the rights to have adult priveleges that kids can't wait to get old enough to enjoy! And I see you were joking so you know it too. GOD BAD SATAN GOOD In the Bible christians claim God is good and Satan is bad....
WalterWhite comments on Apr 22, 2018:
Well, the tales say Satan did kill 10 people, but they all got their lives back and prospered like never before. But the Bible God killed many millions whoi stayed dead, and that was before the time of magic Jesus being able to bring them to Heaven if they "believed in him." The Bible God was afflicted with many human shortcomings and weak emotions. Once he zapped a man dead, poor Onan, just for spilling his cucumber seeds on the ground. Very unGodly!

Have u ever convinced a religious person that what they believe is all myth and does not make sense?...
WalterWhite comments on Apr 21, 2018:
Yes, but the number is small! It can't be done directly from the outside, and they have to willingly come to letting go of religion on their own. You can plant seeds of truth and hope they take hold, often they fall on barren ground. Had one a few weeks ago after a couple months of serious online discussion of the History of the Bible, and early Christianity, and a lot of talk about feelings and a pretend parent figure in the mind. Not much use trying to influence the older deeply indoctrinated people, but I have had luck with some young better educated people. The Neuroscience and Psychology behind how religious indoctriation works to affect their hidden brain chemistry takes omse time and patience. Reason and facts are not actually the best way to break through. Religion works like a strong mental addiction that satisfies their inner fears and insecurities of emotional and psychological needs, so facts don't seldom overrule what make them feel good.
I neither believe or disbelieve. Am I in the right place?

WalterWhite comments on Apr 21, 2018:
You are never hopeless unless you willingly choose to be. I can see how living with chronic pain, and also a husband with a personality disorder can be stresful and wear you down. It sounds like your duaghter is a good and positive force in your life though, yes? And you yourself have some natural resilience and had some spiritual peace in the past. That is still there, but obscured by your current stresses. Only you can decide if dealing with your abusiive husband is too much and that you have to get away from it to regain your sanity and peace. Living in fear is not healthy for sure. Don't know if you are staying to have financial support to help with your daughter in college. I imagine there are family abuse help assistance lines to chat with in your area, yes? You could explain your situation and get some guidance on how these situations are resolved. If you had some positive close freinds in your life that woudl help for sure. Valuing your own physcial and mental health is your main priority now, since your daughter seems to be on her way to adulthood and the father role model is not readlly needed. If you let yourself sink deeper into fear and abuse you will not be much good to your daughter, and also not a good mother role model outting up with abuse whether it is from his disorder or not. Just my thoughts and maybe others will add some useful hints to help you too.
Stuck in a rut

The best cure for a monotonous life is falling in love. Then you will be energized and always have thoughts and plans. You can fall in love with many things besides another person of course. Kittens and puppies involve a smaller committment! I like that someone else suggested being a volunteer to help others to take your focus off yourself. It can be very rewarding actually. Make an effort to have a healthy mind and body, and keep alert for exciting possibilties of new things in your Life.

Still some cultural misogynistic immorality of preferring male offspring. This is in the hands of a higher power though. Besides its religious meaning "soul" was used for along time in older Psychology to mean the part of the psyche involved with our connection to others and the world around us including our higher moral thoughts, for love and compassion etc. Now this spiritual side of us, that most everyone has, is just seen as natural and a part of our normal consciousness and humanity. Not to the same degree in everyone of course, but it can come out of hiding even in tough emotionless macho man types who might help a hurt dog, cuddle a kitten, or give some coins to a homeless person.

For important things in Life I woould never be content with just believing. Beliefs by definition don't even need any evidence or proof to have them. So for important things I must do the work and take the time to find good evidence and proof to have truth instead. So if someone has a gun for example, it makes no sense to me to have someone believing it is not loaded, or to take on faith that it is not loaded! I would have to check to get good evidence to KNOW whether the gun is loaded or not. When you have truth backed up with proof, then you can happily throw believing and taking things on faith out the window as redundant and useless. Never perfect of course, but for important stuff, I think knowing is better than believing.
