I love the way the translation follows the Latin syntax. The thing I drew from the story is that it was about a time when there was more to war than winning.

When Asia Bibi was accused of blasphemy, the whole country was calling for her execution. They firmly believed that she had actually threatened the whole culture of the country, making everybody a victim of her crime.

For success, attitude is as important as ability.....Sir Walter Scott.
brentan comments on Dec 30, 2018:
I think it has a lot to do with 'if at first you don't succeed...' There must, I think, be a lot of people who 'try and try again' and never succeed but the moral might be that you definitely won't succeed unless you struggle through the failures. Someone, from the music industry if I remember rightly, spoke about being an overnight success after thirty years in the business.

brentan comments on Dec 28, 2018:
I have a great interest in this topic too. I think it's safe to assume we started off in Africa but I don't agree anymore that we moved from Africa and then became farmers and cultured people in the Middle East. I think the route took hundreds of thousands of years, people moved north as far as the ice caps and then when the Ice Age ended, millions died in the resulting floods and the survivors built up their civilisations again much further south. Recently I've been watching Maria Kvilhaug's (Lady of the Labrynth) YouTube videos on the time when the different hominids and the Neanderthals co-existed and interbred.

I think the planet is ok but could be better. We're about as good as we can be because it's not that long since we were apes.We have become very inward-looking animals and self-critical. With our comfortable lifestyles and high-falutin religious values we are always focussing on how better life might be if we were closer to moral perfection. I was reading about Trump's family since they came to America, yesterday on Wikipedia. I was reminded of Michael Corleone in one of the Godfather movies telling a senator 'We're all part of the same hypocrisy, senator'. I dread to think what the public will do when they finally wake up to the fact that they are being encouraged to do right so as to clear the field for those who want to do wrong.

That's Marian Finucane, one of our Irish media veterans. She's not the worst by any means. I think she was really out of her depth and it helped in a way, because she was forced to ask all the 'stupid' questions. That might have been very helpful for people, like Marian's listeners, who probably had no idea where Peterson was coming from.
Just a thought.

We used to refer to a certain lager popular with women as 'a leg-opener'. There was a very predatory attitude back in the day which was acceptable. It was your job to get sex and her job to stop you. I think this is the big question now: is trying to get a woman drunk so she will be more agreeable to sex the same as spiking a drink or using date-rape drugs?
