An Austrian ArchDuke got bumped off, while visiting Serbia. Austria-Hungary claimed Serbia was responsible, and invaded the joint. But, Serbia was allied with Russia, which put Russia in the war. But, Austria-Hungary was allied with Germany, which put Germany in the war. But, Russia was allied with France, which put France in the war. In order to beat up the French quickly, and then turn East to face the Russians, Germany invaded France by way of Belgium, which put Belgium in the war. But, Belgium was a protectorate of Great Britain, which put Britain in the war. But, the Ottoman Turkish empire was allied with Germany, which put the Turks in the war. In short, my children, it was one huge and mindless catastrophe, which claimed 15 million military dead. (No one ever tabulated the civilian deaths). To historians, it is considered a classic example of the dangers posed by competing alliances.

Wow! The earliest memory I have is of me standing up in one of those little wooden cages, they used to keep babies in, back in 'olden days'. A bunch of adults were sitting around, ogling me, and treating me like I was a baby or something. I can remember clinging to the bars of my cage, feeling frustrated at not being articulate enough to express my indignation! I think I might have been six months old at the time.
It seems that being atheist or agnostic is now looked at as a type of religion
davknight comments on Jan 11, 2019:
Religion says 'believe it'. Science says 'prove it'. Atheism is indeed another form of religion. The atheist says 'there is no god, no great pumpkin, no great bunny rabbit, no way, no how!'. Yet, they cannot prove, or disprove their assertion. They just expect you to believe it. That's why I choose to be agnostic. Agnosticism is the scientific approach.

If the rich are "successful", it means ten percent of the population enjoy the wealth produced by the other ninety percent. It also implies the other ninety percent are "failures". Twelve-thousand years ago, when class-stratified societies began, the ten percenters were telling the ninety percenters that their wealth and status was "the will of the Gods". A hundred years ago, the ten percenters justified their position in society by saying they were the product of "good breeding". Nowadays, they are "successful". But what it really means is that Humans have failed to figure out a way of distributing surpluses.

The 'bible belt' is basically Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina, with pockets of evangelicals elsewhere. The people of this region have been conditioned to think that they can be as sinful as they want, so long as they go to church twice on Sunday, and once on Wednesday. And they will still be able to get front-row seats in Heaven! Their preachers/pastors exert a good deal of influence over them; and if told to vote for particular candidates, they will. So, they can always be counted on to vote for candidates that are opposed to abortion, and anything else their clergy finds reprehensible.
