A university ( I don't remember which one) has been doing a weed study in a closed enviroment . They cover all but one four foot wide section which is changed every year. They are still getting sprouts 80 plus years into the trial. So you will never get rid of all of the weeds, the best you can hope for is control. If you get them before they can go to seed it helps for next year, but your neighbors and the birds are more than willing to spread a little joy.
