I knew families that ate it when I was growing up in SW Louisiana. A few years ago it started spreading in the city I live in. I have to cut it back and it still spreads. The plant has a large bulbous root that will send up new shoots for years. Even digging the root out only spreads the plant, as each small rootlet will grow into a new plant. I've tried a lot of different survival food, but Poke is way too much work.

I had been renting him a room for about 4 years, he took care of my dogs and his cats when I went on trips, about the only good thing that he did, Without him paying rent, I actually had more money each month. To make sure that I would never get another roommate, I actually got rid of the extra beds and converted my two spare bedrooms to other uses. I keep large airbeds for those times that someone spends the night and the guest bathroom is stocked,
