I have to agree with @freeofgod, root spreading weeds are some of the most difficult to rid yourself of. Early eradication and repeated maintenance will slow them down, but seldom eradicate it. They store energy in their roots and will go dormant if they are repeatedly eradicated on the surface, but you have to remain vigilant for their return.

Double funny, when I was in Belize, we were staying with a friend. Her mother had been saving $2 bills and gave her several hundred of them. No merchant in Belize would take a US $2, when we were leaving I traded her $400 for 200 bills and put them in a shoe to keep them flat and I sure as hell didn't want 200 bills in my wallet.
