When I was attending college they had what was called an FTE or full time equivalent student. Budgets for departments and programs were based on FTEs, as was the pay for some adjunct faculty. I think we need to bring the concept of FTEs into the employment statistics. Two 20 hour per week jobs would be rated as 1 FTE job. Four 30 hour per week jobs would be rated as 3 FTE jobs. This would give us a much more accurate picture of employment.

Really bad reporting. She says that Mississippi's health care cost is 16% of median income while Massachusetts health care costs 8.4% of median income, which she says is about half that amount. Sounds really terrible until you run the percentages against median household income. Mississippi: $43,529 x 16% = $6964.64 (7% higher) Massachusetts: $77,385 8.4% $6500.34 Almost twice? Hardly. While 7% of a large enough number can be significant, it is almost within the margin of error.
