I tend to be a "get-to-the-point" phone talker. Part of that is the fact that I grew up in a household w/ 5 kids & 1 phone! Got a cell phone late & a smart phone just recently (still not totally 'activated'). I'm not a Luddite by any means, just will not be a slave to the dang thing & still prefer face-to-face rather than a phone conversation. Now, that does change to a large extent when doing a long distance relationship. Then the time involved is more than worth it...

I was my Mom's primary care-giver for a few years, but I had help from one of my sister's that lived nearby & it was more dementia problems than any serious health issues. Still, she couldn't be left alone, so it tied me there a lot. We wanted to keep her in her home for as long as we could, & we did 'til her death at 92. Please, you do have to take care of yourself in order to be able to care for another. If he is getting to be more than you can handle, especially as you are not a pro, yes, a nursing home may be the right answer, for both of you. Let reason & pragmatism rule, not guilt. You don't deserve that as you've been doing what you can, & if it's too much, well, ya' gotta do what ya' gotta do. Do so with a clear conscience. Best to you.
