These were great entertainers, though I somehow didn't see the era's talk shows. A few years ago I dated someone who grew up in Burbank and lived the Hollywood years. His dad, a retired LA cop, was hired as chauffer/bodyguard/butler for Lucille Ball. My friend was able to visit the home and occasional TV sets, with memories of her always being a gracious and genuine person, visited by all the BIG stars of the 40's & 50's. Cleanliness would only be an issue in someone with overall poor habits. Without hesitation, my son was left intact. As it turned out, my son also developed phimosis at age 12, discovered from a constricted urinary tract that required noticeably frequent bathroom breaks at school. I was disappointed that he required a circumcision, but it was a relatively easy day surgery and recovery. My daughter lives in New Zealand, where midwives routinely deliver babies and circumcision is typically never a consideration. I could not be more happy for my kiwi family and their healthy ways, never even a thought to cut my dear grandson!

This is personal for me, as I have a dear friend and colleague, Oregon National Guard, stationed in Qatar. The assignment never made sense, deployed in September to guard/assist in rebuilding an older airbase there. There was no hazard pay attached to the assignment. She's a career soldier, transitioned to this from 8 yrs/3 deployments as a Marine. Joining Guard was intended to avoid conflict deployments, and I think of her constantly, like a daughter to me.
