Someone with scientific inclinations would be more likely to use a drone, I'd think. Suicide bombers are generally motivated by a belief that martyrdom equals paradise in the afterlife. Since there is no verifiable evidence of anything after death, the individual you describe would be a poor scientist indeed!

It would never work because the bomber would try to explain to the victims the steps the bomb goes through in order to detonate. The chemical reactions, the way of connecting the wires, the elements in the bomb, the electrons, protons and neutrons in each of them, how the reaction occurs. By that time the police would show up and tell the bomber that he needs to come to the station and explain all that to them, and the bomber would get frustrated and give the vest to the police and say forget it.
