What could go wrong?

Like @Ellatynemouth, I find the idea of ‘coming out’ as an atheist to be very weird. But I understand the culture you live in, and the pressure it exerts to conform to religiosity. It’s helping me to understand this site much more as well. I found it very strange at first.

As a Brit living in Britain, the idea of proclaiming one’s atheism is completely alien - here, no-one cares, or very very few at any rate. Even the vast majority of those who have religion don’t care. It’s never a topic of everyday conversation, much less condemnation.

Very best wishes to you, and be prepared for argument, tears, and probably ostracism. Be brave.

Have fun. It will also be interesting to see how many of your friends become ex friends.

Coming out as a non-believe is pretty freeing, but you should be prepared to loss friends and family. I hope that does not happen, hope for for the best but prepar for the worst.

You could have an "unbaptism" or a "rebaptism" out of Christianity and into Humanism, as a born again atheist.

I agree with the others that are advising caution, because group shock could go all kinds of sideways, depending on who attends, how they might react, and how much you rely on them as friends. Some might abandon you, or need time to get over their shock - unless you are inviting friends that already suspect, share your beliefs (or lack of belief), or those that would still care about you regardless.
