I had a root canal, went directly to the mall and walked around and once I was numb, went out to eat. I was completely fine.

I had one expected it to be very brutal and friends had fun making it sound worst. Well done did not even need pain pills in fact i walked home after. 4 hours later drinking beer. Had my back teeth pulled by them too. It was done before i knew it

It was ok. It was a major PITA after, as my jaw hurt like hell. It was my furthest back molar, and I still have wisdom teeth. I still have the temp crown (that's a no no) as the root canal almost wiped my HSA. However, they left me alone in the room, and of course i took a selfie when they weren't looking, jaw wired open with a gigantic piece of rubber over my mouth.

I have had two. Neither were memorable for anything other than lots of trips to the dentist (exam, drilling, temporary crown, permanent crown, check fitting). It just takes a lot of time.

4

I have had 2 and it was no worse then an extraction. Mostly just apprehension of what might happen, which never happened.

3

Well I have had 4. Not as much fun as walking on legos at 3 am.

I've had several root canals... What a relief when the tooth pain is gone. Getting my wisdom teeth out was far, far worse.

3

It hurts, but the pain is gone in a day or two. I"ve had much worse pain.

The experience of root canal is different for everyone, and your dentist can make a difference. Some of us metabolize anaesthetic rapidly, making it necessary to inject multiple times during the procedure. You'll never know what it's like until you do it.

My last 2 root canals have been mostly pain free... Quite the change from previous ones from 12-14 years ago. I had more pain from the shots of novacaine they used to deaden the areas they were going to work on!

Thankfully it wasnt bad at all. Drilled the inside of the tooth out, down into and get the nerves, filled, crowned.

The only bad part was the dental assistant who seemed incompetent. Otherwise, no pain.

I've had them. But I've since read that this procedure can lead to serious health problems.

I"m not going to open your link. I live in fear now about my teeth. How dare you rain on my root canal parade!

Had one -developed dry root-very painful.

Oweee, oweee, owes.!!!

I've had 3 (so far). I don't like them because they take too long. I had one with pain (the novacane (?)) didn't reach that one, so I felt ever micro second. How did I deal with the pain? I watched with a mirror they provided -- I always watch if they let me. Most people hated the dentist because pain usually occurs -- I recognize that if I'm going to go, get over it and use it as a learning experience. I have like all the dentists I have seen over the decades.

Pick a competent endodontist.Should relieve the pain.

I've had one, nothing bad to say about it, except for the time that it took, it was all good.

Ask for Nitrous, and turn your appointment into a blissful vacation.

Five all great and fun.

I've only had one on one of my front teeth. I didn't have any preconceived notion that the procedure was going to hurt, I just wanted the pain I came in with to go away. Even with the numbing, the last part of the procedure was very uncomfortable. I can see why they get a bad rap.

Root canal? Yup. Been there. Done that. Bought the T-shirt! ?
If you have a good doctor you needn't worry. They will simply dope you up with local anesthetic and then ream the nerve out of the root of the tooth. I have had several done, and I hardly felt a thing. It's a specialty so your regular dentist will probably refer you to someone else for the reaming. Then you go back to your dentist for the final phase (usually a crown). If your insurance does not cover it, you may feel a little sticker shock when you get your bill.

I guess you haven't gotten to the reinfection, pulling stage yet, don't worry, It'll come... 🙂

5 here and an implant...piece of cake, actually...all the hype can put your body on edge...chill, let them give you drugs, and it is done...biggest negative: time factor...it takes more than one trip for all the steps if you also get crowns

2

I had one... it's not that bad. You'll be fine, they numb you up real good and you don't feel a thing 😉

I have such scrappy teeth. I came back from the dentist last week and have 10K more to be done. We're about to go on SSDI so there is no way I can afford that. So that will mean more root canals probably. The only teeth in my head I like are those with root canals. No root, no pain. If I could, I get implants all the way around.

The only issue I had was due to my facial hair being a little to long.

My dentist has suggested it, twice. Each time I declined and insisted on extraction. Over and done with, not mucking around for weeks. I am lucky, I have a set of spares. I currently have 30 teeth, have had many adult teeth removed and yet to cut wisdom teeth, almost 60, so must be some time off before I will be wise.
