I miss my horses.
I've had horses all my life, from my first horse, a Haitian mustang stallion inherited from my oldest brother when he stayed in the US for high school, to the last equines-all gaited breeds, I owned on my family farm near Morehead, KY.
I miss my dogs also.
I can't have pets in this apartment, but pets also tie you down and I was traveling to teach in so many provinces that that was impractical.
I still kept a male Asian fairy-bluebird on my balcony for a year, and let him fly around my apartment during the day when I was home.
He thought I was his mate, and followed me everywhere, perching next to me to watch movies, laughing and screaming over the best parts.
He'd sing along if he liked the movie background music, and nibble on my fingers when I was on the computer.
Weirdly, he could sing as though he was three birds at the same time..some trick he did with his vocal cords. He could even imitate sounds and say human words.
